Each servo-data region has a plurality of servo zones in each of which servo data are stored in a plurality of track segments at a servo channel frequency particular to that servo zone, wherein in at least one of the tracks having servo data and user data, the servo channel frequency differs from the data channel frequency.
Abstract:
A frame for a game racquet such as a tennis racquet is formed by winding a filament over a mandrel to form a tube, wetting the filament with resin before or after winding, forming the wound tube into a preform, inserting the preform into a mold, and molding and curing the preform to form a rigid racquet frame.

Abstract:
A system for polling a preamplifier unit to remotely determine pre-established parametric values in a disk drive is disclosed. The disk drive comprises a controller, a preamplifier, and a plurality of transducers. The system for polling the preamplifier comprises means in the controller for generating a succession of serial bit characters each representative of a different pattern. A means is provided for successively transferring said serial bit characters from the controller to the preamplifier unit. A plurality of individual bit lines are provided in the preamplifier unit representative of at least one parametric value. A means is included in the preamplifier unit for comparing each serial bit pattern character received with said plurality of individual bit lines, and for generating a match signal when a serial bit pattern character received matches the plurality of individual bit lines. A means is provided for transferring the match signal from the preamplifier unit to the controller.
Abstract:
A method for monitoring the performance of a catalytic converter (34) computes the oxygen storage capacity and desorption capacity of a catalyst within the catalytic converter (34). An engine control unit (10) receives mass flow rate information of air from a mass air flow rate sensor (12) and an injector driver (24), and receives electrical signals from an upstream exhaust gas sensor (28) and a downstream exhaust gas sensor (30). A rate modifier is determined from excess air ratios and an adaptation parameter. The engine control unit (10) calculates normalized air fuel ratios for the exhaust gas entering and leaving the catalytic converter (34) and performs numerical integration using the rate modifier to determine the oxygen storage capacity of the catalyst in the catalytic converter (34). The calculated oxygen storage capacity of the catalyst can be compared with threshold values to determine the performance of the catalytic converter (34).
Abstract:
A disk drive comprising a plurality of read/write transducers, a programmable preamplifier, and a controller for furnishing control and data signals to the programmable preamplifier and for receiving data signals therefrom, is disclosed. The programmable preamplifier comprising a write data input circuit for receiving data signals to be supplied to a transducer, a read data output circuit for manifesting data signals supplied to said preamplifier unit by a transducer, and a transducer interface circuit for providing write data signals to a transducer and receiving read data signals from a transducer. The programmable preamplifier further comprises a multiplexer comprising a first multiplexer input connected to receive a first internal digital signal, a second multiplexer input connected to receive a second internal digital signal, a control input connected to receive a control signal for selecting between the first and second internal digital signals, and a multiplexer output for outputting the selected first or second internal digital signal. The multiplexer output is connected to an output terminal of the programmable preamplifier. The programmable preamplifier comprises a serial interface circuit for receiving serially presented control signals from the associated controller, including the control signal for selecting between the first and second internal digital signals.
Abstract:
A mechanism for controlling raised and lowered positions of a hitch-mounted implement includes a rotatable control knob coupled to a transducer, e.g., a potentiometer, for movement between first and second positions representing the raised and lowered positions, respectively, of the implement. The control knob has a button for locking the mechanism in the implement-transport position and for other purposes. A position knob includes a tang-like stop for limiting rotation of the control knob toward the second position. The position knob thereby "sets" a lowered position of the implement which is somewhat above the lowest possible position of the implement. The position knob may be rotated to locate the stop anywhere between two barriers which set the overall limits of travel of the control knob. Most preferably, the position knob is clamped between a barrier member and a console surface and is frictionally inhibited from rotating.
Abstract:
There is provided a tunable high power magnetron. An annular anode circumscribes a cathode and contains a plurality of resonating cavities. The volume of the resonating cavities determines the output frequency of the RF energy emitted by the magnetron. The volume of the cavities is varied by changing the position of movable, electrically conductive back walls.
Abstract:
The invention provides a lubricating composition containing an oil of lubricating viscosity and a block copolymer of a poly(olefin) block, such as poly(isobutylene) (PIB) and a polyvinyl aromatic) block, such as poly(styrene), wherein the copolymer is optionally functionalized or grafted. The invention further provides a method of using the block copolymer to control deposits in a lubricating oil composition.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a structure comprising substantially planar electronic devices comprises providing an active material layer having a plurality of insulative features formed therein. The features at least partly inhibit electrical current flow and define at least a first substantially planar electronic device in the layer having at least first and second terminals comprising an area of the active material layer. A patterned dielectric layer having an exposed surface patterned with at least a first depression arranged over the first terminal is formed over the active material layer. Dielectric material is removed from at least a base of the first depression to expose a first terminal surface and form a hole through the dielectric material to the first terminal. The hole is at least partly filled with electrically conductive material to form an electrical connection to the first terminal. Corresponding structures and electrical circuits are also described and claimed.
