摘要: An optical module includes an under cladding, a first core, a second core, and an over cladding. The under cladding has a flat shape as a whole. The first core has a quadrangular cross section and is placed on the under cladding. The second core is placed on a terminal end portion of the first core. The over cladding is placed in a region including the terminal end portion of the first core and the second core placed on the terminal end portion of the first core. The under cladding and the first core placed thereon constitute a first optical waveguide. The under cladding, the terminal end portion of the first core placed on the under cladding, the second core placed thereon, and the over cladding placed on and around the second core constitute a mode field size conversion portion. The under cladding, the second core placed on the under cladding, and the over cladding placed on and around the second core constitute a second optical waveguide. The first core is made of silicon. The first and second cores differ in cross-sectional shape. A manufacturing method for the optical module is also disclosed.

摘要: A disk array device maintains data reliability with few performance degradation problems. In a RAID 4 or RAID 5 disk array device, redundant data created during disk degeneration with a device control module is transferred to a memory of a subsystem control module. The memory is backed up with a battery. The redundant data is held in memory until a writing operation to disk drives is completed. Then, when recovering after a momentary power supply interruption, the write data and parity data stored in the memory are written out without writing data from the disk drive. When recovering after a momentary power supply interruption and the disks are normal, the redundant same-group data is read from disk drives other than those on which the data that is to be written and the parity are stored and based on those and the write data, new redundant data is created and written to the object disk.

摘要: The spare disk unit existing in the port other than the parity group to which a failure disk unit in a disk array belongs is most preferentially selected as an alternative destination and data is reconstructed. When a system is made operative, the spare disk unit is allocated to a different port position every rank and the spare disk unit belonging to the rank of the failure disk unit is most preferentially selected as an alternative destination. Due to this, the selection of the alternative destination by the spare disk unit is optimized and the deterioration of performance in data reconstruction is prevented.

摘要: A deflective focusing system includes a magnetic lens for focusing a charged particle beam, a plurality of rings made of magnetic material arranged substantially concentrically with the magnetic lens inside of the magnetic lens, the rings being arranged at spaced apart positions in the direction of the central axis of the magnetic lens so as to form a predetermined magnetic focusing field distribution, a one-stage electrostatic deflector having a plurality of deflection electrodes which are spaced apart in a circumferential direction of the magnetic lens, which are arranged substantially concentrically with the magnetic lens inside of the magnetic lens, and which extend in the direction of the central axis so as to form a predetermined electrostatic deflection field distribution, so that the charged particle beam passes through the concentrically arranged deflection electrodes to be deflected in accordance with a voltage applied to the deflection electrodes, and ring-like grounding electrodes disposed substantially concentrically with the magnetic lens on the object plane side and the image plane side of the electrostatic deflector along the passage of the charged particle beam. The electromagnetic field is adjusted by the deflector, the rings and the grounding electrodes to obtain small aberrations and a small landing angle.
