    摘要: A lubrication system for a direct injected V-type two-cycle engine is disclosed having a lubricant pump adapted to discharge lubricant into each crankcase chamber of the engine through ports positioned adjacent the downstream side of reed valves of the air intake system. Ports supplying lubricant to cylinders in the right cylinder bank of the engine extend through a left wall of the corresponding crankcase chamber. Ports supplying lubricant to cylinders in the left cylinder bank of the engine extend through a right wall of the corresponding crankcase chamber. During engine assembly, the lubricant pump is manually driven before it is mechanically installed so as to fill the attached supply hoses with lubricant. The pump delivers lubricant to each crankcase chamber at a rate high enough to avoid lubricant carbonization at engine idle and low enough to avoid lubricant resistance to crankshaft rotation, which may make the engine difficult to start.

    摘要: This invention is an outboard motor for use in propelling a watercraft. The motor has a cowling in which is positioned an internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine comprises a V shaped cylinder block cooperating with first and second cylinder heads to define first and second cylinder banks. The cylinder banks form a valley therebetween. Each of the cylinder banks include at least one combustion chamber. A crankcase is located at an end of the block opposite the heads forming a crankcase chamber. The engine also includes an exhaust system for routing the products of combustion from at least one combustion chamber and an intake system for providing air to the at least one combustion chamber. The intake system includes a single surge tank positioned between the cowling and the crankcase of the engine. At least one first intake pipe extends from the surge tank in a first direction along the cylinder block to the first cylinder head and at least one second intake pipe extends along the cylinder block to the second cylinder head.

    摘要: An intake system for an engine arranged to be positioned within a cowling of an outboard motor for powering a water propulsion device of the motor is disclosed. Preferably, the engine is of the "V"-type, having first and second banks defined by first and second cylinder heads connected to a cylinder block, and having a crankcase or second end positioned opposite the heads and facing the watercraft. Each bank contains at least one combustion chamber, and the banks define a valley extending therebetween along a length of the engine. An intake system is positioned at the second end of the engine and comprises a surge tank corresponding to each bank, an intake passage leading from each surge tank to the cylinders of its respective bank, and a throttle body having an air inlet and a branch passage leading to each surge tank. An engine auxiliary component is positioned above or below the throttle body of the intake system.

    摘要: An oil pump for a lubricating system of an outboard motor is disclosed. The motor has a cowling defining an engine compartment, a water propulsion device, and a guide member having an upper surface and a lower surface, the guide member positioned in the cowling and generally dividing the engine compartment into an upper part and a lower part. An engine is positioned in the upper part of the engine compartment within the cowling and has an output shaft arranged to drive the water propulsion device. The lubricating system includes an oil pan positioned below the guide member and an oil passage leading from the pan through the guide member. The oil pump is positioned in the upper part of the engine compartment, but below the engine, and is driven by a lower end of the output shaft of the engine which extends below the engine, the oil pump having an oil inlet in communication with the oil passage through the guide member.

    摘要: A number of embodiments of outboard motor that are comprised of a power head consisting of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine and a surrounding protective cowling. Each embodiment also includes a drive shaft housing and lower unit, the latter of which contains a propulsion device for propelling an associated watercraft. The engines are mounted within the protective cowling so their crankshafts rotate about vertically extending axes. In each case the crankshaft is coupled to a drive shaft that depends into the drive shaft housing and lower unit for driving the propulsion device. A flywheel is affixed to the upper end of the crankshaft. A first accessory drive is affixed to the crankshaft below the flywheel for driving at least one engine accessory. The engine accessory is mounted at an upper end of the engine and at least in part within the outer peripheral surface of the flywheel in top plan view. Various alternative locations for the components of the engine including specifically an alternator and a starter motor are disclosed.

    摘要: A drive arrangement for an engine of an outboard motor including a cowling and a water propulsion device is disclosed. The engine is positioned in the cowling and has a body having a top end and a bottom end and defining at least one combustion chamber. The engine has a generally vertically extending crankshaft having a bottom end in driving relation with the water propulsion device and a top end extending above the top end of the body of the engine, the engine including an intake system including an intake passage through which air is provided to each combustion chamber, at least one intake valve for controlling the flow through the intake passage, and an intake camshaft for actuating the intake valve(s). The engine also includes an exhaust system including an exhaust passage leading from each combustion chamber, at least one exhaust valve for controlling the flow of exhaust through the exhaust passage, and an exhaust camshaft for actuating the exhaust valve(s). The drive arrangement includes a flywheel positioned on the crankshaft adjacent the top end of the engine and a camshaft drive pulley positioned on the crankshaft above the flywheel, the camshaft drive pulley driving a first flexible transmitter which drives a driven pulley connected to at least one of the camshafts, the crankshaft further arranged to drive a second flexible transmitter which drives a pulley associated with an engine accessory such as an alternator.

Various arrangements are disclosed for conveying idle exhaust gases to this area and discharging them to the atmosphere through and above the water exhaust gas discharge. These arrangements incorporate a system for precluding water from entering into the engine through its exhaust system including the idle discharge.

    摘要: A four cycle outboard motors that have water cooled engines and an oil pan that is formed in the upper portion of the drive shaft housing. An exhaust pipe collects exhaust gases from an exhaust guide and delivers to a cavity that is formed in the oil pan by an interior wall thereof. The exhaust pipe does not terminate below the lower surface of the oil pan and idle exhaust gases are delivered to the area between the exterior of the exhaust pipe and the interior surface of the oil pan that defines the cavity. These idle exhaust gases are discharged to the atmosphere through and above the water exhaust gas discharge. The oil pan lower surface has a drain opening that is aligned with a vertical drain opening in the drive shaft housing. At least a pair of elastomeric members are clamped between the drive shaft housing and the oil pan to provide stiffness and sound damping.
