摘要: An image forming apparatus and a method of controlling turn-on of light source used therefor are capable of conducting stable image forming operation and maintaining high effective scanning rate while switching the rotation control of the polygonal motor between the internal control by the internal encoder of the motor and the external control by the horizontal synchronous signal outside of the motor. With the apparatus and method, the period of detecting the timing of start of the fast scanning (referred to as SOS period) is T when the driving motor rotates at a predetermined number of revolutions. T becomes shorter by T2 due to the switching from the internal control to the external control. During the shift from the internal control to the external control, the light source is turned on so that the period T1 from turning-on the light source for detecting the SOS timing to the detection of the SOS signal becomes longer than T2. Thereby, turning-on of the light source is surely conducted earlier than the SOS signal detection timing when the rotational control is switched from the internal control to the external control.

摘要: A light transmittance adjusting apparatus for adjusting a windowpane of an automobile or a building has a fixed member and a movable member arranged in parallel with each other and having a plurality of light interception sections and light transmission sections formed thereon alternately. The vertical position of the movable member are changed electrostatically relative to the fixed member to adjust the light transmittance of the windowpane. Each light interception section has a semi-interception region, the light transmittance of which decreases gradually from a center region thereof toward the adjacent light transmission section. The semi-interception region of the light interception section of a light interception plate of the fixed member overlap the semi-interception region of the light interception section of a light interception plate of the movable member, thus accomplishing an optical interception completely.

摘要: An ophthalmic apparatus for diagnosing the condition of an eye based on an examination of images of interference fringes formed by a lacrimal layer on the anterior portion of the eye. The apparatus has an illumination system that projects a beam of light from a light source onto the anterior portion of the eye, and an imaging system, such as a CCD camera, that produces images of interference fringes formed by a lacrimal layer on the anterior portion of the eye. The illumination and imaging systems each have linear polarizers having mutually parallel linear polarization axes.

摘要: A light beam reflected from an ocular fundus is split into a pair of right and left light beams by a two-aperture stop disposed in a position conjugate with an anterior ocular segment of an eye to be examined. The pair of right and left ocular fundus images having a parallax is formed as intermediate images from the split light beams at the position of a photographic mask. The optical path of the pair of ocular fundus images formed as intermediate images is split by a pair of optical path splitting lenses disposed in a position substantially conjugate with the two-aperture stop. One ocular fundus image is re-formed on half of an imaging plane of an imaging element, and the other ocular fundus image is reformed separately on the other half of the imaging plane. With such a structure, two ocular fundus images for three dimensional viewing can be efficiently obtained without using a prism for splitting the optical path.

摘要: In an ophthalmic measuring method, a traceable marker in particulate form is administered to the lachrymal fluid of a subject's eye, and the lachrymal fluid is irradiated with illuminating light. Images of the illuminated lachrymal fluid are electronically captured respectively at different times. Two images from among the captured images are selected, with each of the two selected images displaying the traceable marker. A characteristic point of each of the two selected images is specified. A movement speed of the traceable marker is measured based on positions thereof in the two selected images and on a time difference from specifying the characteristic point of one of the two selected images to specifying the characteristic point of the other of the two selected images. The measured movement speed of the traceable marker is outputted as the movement speed of the lachrymal fluid of the subject's eye.

摘要: A boat propulsion system includes a power source, a propulsion section, a shift position switching mechanism arranged to switch among a first shift position, a second shift position, and a neutral position, a gear ratio switching mechanism, an actuator, and a control section. When switching is to be performed from the neutral position to the first shift position and the high-speed gear ratio, the control section is arranged to cause the actuator to, maintain the low-speed gear ratio, switch to the first shift position, and then establish the high-speed gear ratio when the current gear ratio of the gear ratio switching mechanism is the low-speed gear ratio, and cause the actuator to establish the low-speed gear ratio before switching to the first shift position, switch to the first shift position, and then establish the high-speed gear ratio when the current gear ratio of the gear ratio switching mechanism is the high-speed gear ratio. This arrangement improves the durability of a power source and a power transmission mechanism in a boat propulsion system including an electronically controlled shift mechanism.

摘要: A marine propulsion system includes an engine, propellers arranged to be rotated by the engine, a transmission mechanism arranged to transmit a driving force of the engine to the propellers with a speed thereof shifted to at least a low speed reduction ratio and a high speed reduction ratio, a GPS sensor arranged to detect a position of a hull propelled by rotation of the propeller, and a control portion and an ECU arranged to control a shift between the speed reduction ratios of the transmission mechanism. The control portion is arranged to calculate a speed of the hull based on positional information of the hull. The control portion and the ECU are arranged to control a shift between the speed reduction ratios of the transmission mechanism based at least on the speed of the hull. This arrangement provides a marine propulsion system in which both acceleration performance and maximum speed can approach specific levels desired by an operator of the boat.
