摘要: A low power color display system includes a memory which, stores color data and status bits corresponding to a plurality of pixels, status logic, which generates the status bits responsive to receipt of color data for a respective one of the pixels, a data generator, which generates voltage data corresponding to the pixels based on the color data and the status bits for each of the pixels, driver circuitry, which generates voltage signals responsive to receipt of the voltage data for each of the pixels, and a bistable liquid crystal display (LCD) having multiple cells arranged in a matrix, each cell corresponding to a pixel, the LCD being responsive to the voltage signals. Preferably, the system also includes a power supply which provides power to the driver circuitry, and a power manager, the latter turning the power supply ON when the data generator is in the first operating mode and turning the power supply OFF when the data generator is in the second operating mode. The data generator generates the voltage data for a corresponding pixel N times to thereby permit application of the voltage signal corresponding to the pixel data to the LCD N time, where N is an integer established by the status bits.

摘要: The present invention involves a system and method of controlling a steering wheel for simulated steering feel on a steering wheel of a vehicle with front road wheels in a steer-by-wire system. The method includes sensing actual torsion on the steering wheel, comparing the actual torsion to a threshold torque value, sensing actual angular velocity of the steering wheel, and comparing the actual angular velocity to a threshold angular velocity. The method further includes generating a simulated steering feel torque on the steering wheel, if the actual torsion is greater than the threshold torque value and the actual angular velocity is less than the threshold angular velocity. The method further comprises returning the steering wheel to the center position at a specified angular velocity, if the actual torsion is less than the threshold torque value and the actual angular velocity is greater than the threshold angular velocity.

摘要: The present invention is directed to a cholesteric liquid crystal display that includes a homogeneous alignment surface effective to provide increased brightness, low focal conic reflectance and/or reflected light treat is to a significant degree circularly polarized. The homogeneous alignment surface substantially homogeneously aligns the liquid crystal director adjacent thereto. The homogeneous alignment surface may be disposed on one or both sides of a cell of the display. In the case of a cell in which the homogeneous alignment surface is disposed on only one side, the substrate with the inhomogeneous alignment surface may be upstream or downstream of the substrate with the homogeneous alignment surface relative to a direction of incident light. Also included especially in the case of a cell that has the homogeneous alignment surface on both sides is the use of a polarizer to provide very good brightness and low focal conic reflectance. Such a cell may employ an alignment layer material with a high pretilt angle. A stacked display may be produced including at least one cell with at least one homogeneous alignment surface. In particular, a stacked cell display may include a lower cell with two homogeneous alignment surfaces and an upper cell in which the top side has an inhomogeneous alignment surface and the bottom side has a homogeneous alignment surface. The present invention achieves any one or combinations of the above features through the use of the homogeneous alignment surface produced with a predetermined alignment layer material and predetermined alignment conditions. The invention also includes a method of making the inventive display and the stacked inventive display.

摘要: A series of drive schemes are used to apply a single phase of at least one voltage pulse to drive a display with a bistable cholesteric liquid crystal material to a gray scale reflectance. Each drive scheme takes into consideration the initial texture of the cholesteric material and the range of voltages that may be applied between maximum and minimum reflectance of the material. Application of the single phase can be implemented by either time modulation or amplitude modulation.

摘要: A seasoning container including a plastic molded main body for holding granular seasonings, a grinding mechanism sealed in the main body for grinding the granular seasonings into powder for directly sprinkling over food, a turning knob connected to an upper end of the grinding mechanism projected from a top of the main body for manually controlling the grinding mechanism, and a shell made of sheet material and removably mounted around the main body. The main body further includes vertically connected lower and upper cylinders that may be freely shortened or extended in length to provide different height for the main body. The shell is removably connected at upper and lower end to receiving grooves formed around upper and lower peripheries of the upper and the lower cylinders, respectively. Differently shaped shells may be selected for mounting around similarly structured main body during the manufacturing process to easily create seasoning containers of different appearances at reduced cost.

摘要: An ultrasonic system is provided for measuring the thickness of steel plates used in the bottom of oil storage tanks and other similar applications. When the bottom plate corrodes, the potential for leakage occurs. The ultrasonic system can be used to monitor the corrosion of bottom plates in areas which are generally inaccessible, such as the bottom of oil storage tanks. The ultrasonic system includes a probe drive frame having multiple brackets for supporting a plurality of ultrasonic probes. A pulse generator and multi-channel scanner are connected to the probes. A processing unit reads and processes the signals from the probes to calculate the thickness of the plate and to warn of potential leakage problems caused by corrosion of the plate. The system can be operated from a remote location outside the oil storage tanks, which minimizes the time and expense in monitoring the plate.
