Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, methods, and computer-readable media are provided for a user equipment (UE) of a wireless communication system. The UE includes a processor circuitry, and radio front end circuitry coupled to the processor circuitry. The processor circuitry is configured to determine and indicate, to a core network via a radio access network (RAN), one or more cellular internet of things (CIoT) features that are required by the UE and CIoT network behavior expected from the core network to support the one or more CIoT features that are required by the UE. The processor circuitry is configured to select either an enhanced packet core (EPC) or a 5G core (5GC) to establish a wireless connection with the core network, based on a first set of CIoT features supported by the EPC and a second set of CIoT features supported by the 5GC received from the core network.

Abstract: Embodiments related to gateway arrangements for wireless communication networks are disclosed herein. Abstract: Methods, systems, and storage media are provided for user equipment (UE) that supports enhanced coverage and may operate with a voice centric usage setting or a data centric usage setting. When the UE's usage setting is set to voice centric, the UE may not operate in coverage enhancement (CE) mode B. When the UE's usage setting is set to data centric, then the UE may operate in CE mode B. The UE may indicate the UE's usage setting in an Attach or Tracking Area Update (TAU) request message, and a mobility management entity (MME) may indicate to an evolved NodeB that CE mode B is restricted or not restricted based on the usage setting. Abstract: A Next Generation Node-B (gNB) and methods of communication are generally described herein. The gNB is configurable to operate as a source gNB. The gNB is configured with logical nodes including a gNB central unit (gNB-CU) and a gNB distributed unit (gNB-DU). The gNB-CU comprises a gNB-CU control plane (gNB-CU-CP) for control-plane functionality, and a gNB-CU user plane (gNB-CU-UP) for user-plane functionality. When a handover of a User Equipment (UE) from the source gNB to a target gNB is performed, the gNB transfers, from the gNB-DU to the gNB-CU-UP, a downlink data delivery status (DDDS) message to indicate that the gNB-CU-UP is to stop transfer, to the gNB-DU, of downlink data intended for the UE.

Abstract: A mobility management entity (MME) can enable overload control of data transmission via control plane in an evolved packet system (EPS), optimized for cellular internet of things (CIoT), by use of a control plane data backoff timer that suppresses the use of control plane for data transfer by a user equipment (UE) for the duration of the timer. For example, an MME sends a control plane data backoff timer to a UE that suppresses the use of control plane for data transfer for the duration of the timer. Alternatively, when an MME load reaches a threshold, an MME triggers an Overload Start message and sends it to the RAN node, so that the RAN node can restrict selecting this MME for UEs requiring data transfer using control plane CIoT optimization. The RAN node can reject these UEs and return a wait timer in an RRC Connection Release message.

Abstract: Systems, devices, and configurations to implement trusted connections within wireless networks and associated devices and systems are generally disclosed herein. In some examples, a wireless local area network (WLAN) may be attached to a 3GPP evolved packet core (EPC) as a trusted access network, without use of an evolved packet data gateway (ePDG) and overhead from related tunneling and encryption. Information to create the trusted attachment between a mobile device and a WLAN may be exchanged using Access Network Query Protocol (ANQP) extensions defined by IEEE standard 802.11u-2011, or using other protocols or standards such as DHCP or EAP. A trusted WLAN container with defined data structure fields may be transferred in the ANQP elements to exchange information used in the establishment and operation of the trusted attachment.

Abstract: An apparatus of user equipment (UE) comprises one or more baseband processors to process at least one non-public network (NPN) identifier (NPN-ID) broadcast by an NPN and zero or more Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) identifier (PLMN-ID) broadcast by a PLMN, to compare the NPN-ID against a logical list of NPN-IDs and PLMN-IDs ranked in decreasing order of priority, and to connect with the highest ranked processed NPN or PLMN based on a rank of the NPN-ID in the list. The apparatus can include a memory to store the list of NPN-IDs and PLMN-IDs as a logical list of Equivalent Home Networks or as Operator Controlled Network Selector with Access Technology list.
