The intake system requires only a limited number of components, and the design of the preferably wedge-shaped air chamber minimizes flow losses in the housing, which in turn decreases the intake noise. The collector chamber has a larger volume than required for the air supply, so the chamber is not used efficiently. In the invention, the collector chamber volume is used by arranging additional components of the intake tract defined by the intake pipe, i.e. of an internal combustion engine, within the collector chamber (11), for example, by arranging a resonance chamber (20) therein with the resonance chamber connected to the air supply system by through holes (19). This arrangement better utilizes the chamber volume and is particularly advantageous in motor vehicle engine compartments where limited space is available. The invention relates to an intake pipe for the intake air of an internal combustion engine. The intake pipe comprises a shift drum which provides continuous adjustment of the intake pipe length. The intake pipe comprises a housing constructed of individual disks which are joined in a sealing manner via ring grooves. The shift drum is preferably made of regulator disks so that it can be assembled without difficulty by alternately sliding a housing disk and a regulator disk on to the drive shaft. The intake channels are sealed by means of sealing lips which are joined to the regulator disks, for example by injection, and are axially supported on annular ribs forming part of the housing disks. This makes it possible to compensate for the tolerances of all of the components. Apart form being easier to assemble, an intake pipe constructed in the above manner also has a lower weight since no inserts are required to configure and seal the individual intake channels.

On the outside of the wall of the oil-fill opening there is an oil separator 22 through which the blow-by gases from the crankcase are conveyed to the intake manifold and/or to the clean-air side of the air filter. Oil collected in the oil separator 22 is returned through a return port 23, 24 between the oil separator 22 and the oil-fill opening 12. To prevent oil from getting into the oil separator when oil is poured into the oil-fill opening 12 and backing up therein so that under certain circumstances it reaches the clean-air side of the air filter, a shutter 25 in the form of a rotary slide valve, which covers the return port 23, 24 between the oil separator 22 and the oil-fill opening 12 when the cap 15 is removed, is provided within the oil-fill opening. The turning of the cap 15 when the cap is opened causes the slide valve to positively cover the return port, and when the cap 15 is closed, the return port 23, 24 is again uncovered.
