摘要: A wireless communication system (100) having portable communication devices (102, 104, and 106) capable of establishing direct terminal (102)-to-terminal (104) communication (108 and 110) and indirect terminal (102)-to-terminal (104) communication (112, 118 and 114, 116) through another terminal (106) without having a fixed base station. A portable communication device (106) used as a terminal is capable functioning as a router for communication (112, 118 and 114, 116) between other portable devices (102 and 104) in the system. While functioning as a router, the portable device (106) is capable establishing and maintaining a separate direct communication (302 and 304) with another portable communication device (306). A wireless communication system(600) utilizing predetermined cell- and location-specific communication parameters (808) and non-repeating propagation patterns (1200) for portables communication devices in the system for establishing communications.

摘要: A technique is used in a selective call communication system (100) and in a broadcast communication system (106) to provide additional information about a broadcast to a selective call device (111). A broadcast receiver (109) receives a broadcast that includes a prompt (220), such as a FLEX™ logo, and an information address signal (305), such as an inaudible portion of the sound portion of the broadcast. The prompt indicates that additional information is available in a message to be transmitted by the selective call communication system. The selective call device receives the information address signal when activated to do so in response to the prompt. The selective call device receives and decodes an information address from the information address signal and uses it to recover the message at a protocol position indicated by the information address. The additional information is then recovered from the message.

摘要: In a time diversity system (100) including a radio receiving device (110), a temporary address, a group message associated with the temporary address, and an instruction vector for activating the temporary address are transmitted as original information and, subsequently, duplicate information in a radio signal having frames of data. When the original instruction vector is not received by the receiving device (110), a later frame is searched for the duplicate instruction vector, which, when located, activates the temporary address stored by the receiving device (110). The receiving device (110) then determines which frame capable of reception by the receiving device (110) includes the group message, and the receiving device (110) searches for the temporary address and the group message in that frame. The temporary address is then deactivated.

摘要: A power management method with a portable electronic device (100) includes identifying, with a controller (202) of the portable electronic device, a power consumption event in the portable electronic device, the power consumption event having a power consumption requirement. The method further includes selecting (818), in response to the identifying, one of a collection of energy storage devices (304, 306, 308, 320) in an energy storage device farm (218) for the portable electronic device, the selecting being based at least on the power consumption requirement of the power consumption event and on one or more characteristics of the one of the plurality of energy storage devices. The portable electronic device executes the power consumption event using energy stored in the selected one of the plurality of energy storage devices. The portable electronic device (100) may be a mobile phone or other wireless communication device.

摘要: A selective call receiver (130) for conserving power having a first battery saving period, has a receiver (504) for receiving and obtaining synchronization to selective call signals having a multiplicity of frames. A synchronizer (602, 604) determines a first occurrence of a preassigned frame (200) of the multiplicity of frames. The receiver (504) receives the preassigned frame (200), each of frame designating a system collapse value for selecting a second battery saving period, and a TD collapse bit (406) and a TD collapse value (408) for designating a third battery saving period. A decoder/controller (506) decodes the TD collapse bit (406), the TD collapse value (408) and the system collapse value transmitted in the selective call signals. The decoder/controller (506) calculates the third battery saving period from the TD collapse value (408) and a battery save selector (616) selects the third battery saving period designated by the TD collapse value (408) when the TD collapse bit (406) is set.

摘要: A power source device and a power charge device interoperate according to a wireless charging protocol. The power source device inductively wirelessly transmits charging energy signal via an inductive wireless power transmitting circuit. The power charge device wirelessly receives the inductively wirelessly transmitted charging energy signal via an inductive wireless power receiving circuit. The power charge device transfers wirelessly received charging energy signal to a re-chargeable battery of the power charge device. In response to determining that the power source device and the power charge device are in a charging arrangement, the power source device controls user access to a lockable user interface based on receiving information from the power charge device and can display messages received by the power charge device from a wireless communication network. The power source device can include a personal computing system and the power charge device can include a mobile phone.

摘要: A system (10) for dynamic process assignment among a plurality of devices (40) includes an initial coordinator (38), a requesting device (60), and a resource device (62). The initial coordinator (38) includes a list of available resources (56) for each device of the plurality of devices (40). The requesting device (60) requests the use of a desired resource. In response to the request from the requesting device (60), the initial coordinator (38) identifies an available resource associated with one of the plurality of devices (40) for use by the requesting device (60) as the desired resource.
