Abstract: An exemplary battery support assembly includes a bladder device with a pocket that receives at least one battery cell of a traction battery. The bladder provides a fluid flow path that diverges at an end of the pocket into a first section on a first side of the pocket and a second section on an opposing, second side of the pocket. An exemplary battery support method includes moving a flow of fluid along a fluid flow path toward at least one battery cell; and diverging the flow into a first or second section of the fluid flow path such that the flow moves along opposing sides of the at least one battery cell.

Abstract: A battery assembly may include an array of battery cells, a conduit system, and an emitter. The conduit system delivers coolant for thermally communicating with the array and defines a channel with a flexible wall having dielectric particles. The emitter is located proximate the wall and programmed to selectively output a voltage or electric field to impart a dielectrically driven compression force on the particles to adjust a cross-sectional area of the channel to control a flow of the coolant therethrough. The channel may be a flexible resin-based tube including piezoelectric materials. The emitter may output a voltage to move the piezoelectric materials. The channel may be a flexible resin-based tube including materials having electrostriction properties. The emitter may output an electric field to move the materials having electrostriction properties.

Abstract: A vehicle traction battery assembly including an array of stacked prismatic can cases and a support structure is provided. Each of the can cases may define a cavity to receive a battery cell and a multi-prong comb-shaped base. The support structure supports the cases. The support structure and the base define channels therebetween configured for coolant to pass therethrough. A lower portion of each of the can cases open to the channels may be of a dielectric material. A dielectric layer may span a length of the can cases and may be located above the channels. Each of the can cases may define a first locating feature sized to integrate with a second locating feature of an adjacent can case to align the can cases.
