    摘要: Passive prosthetic devices for focally cooling a brain and methods for inhibiting seizures are disclosed. The prosthetic devices replace a thermally insulating bone flap with a thermally conductive insert having an inner surface that contacts the relatively warm meninges or brain and an outer surface that contacts the relatively cool scalp. In an embodiment, the prosthesis is unitary; in another, a biocompatible casing is filled with a highly conductive core; in another, a filled polymer block is attached to a plate; and in another, the bone flap is filled with a conductive polymer. In one embodiment, a filled polymer containing elements that exhibit the magnetocaloric effect provide heat transfer that can be enhanced by application of a suitable magnetic field. Focal cooling as low as 1.2° C. has been found effective at inhibiting seizures.

It receives from the student an answer to the educational question of the corresponding set and determine whether the answer is correct. The student PC continues execution of the video game after receiving the answer from the student.

    摘要: A locking strut including a housing with a piston rod extending therethrough. A baffle mounts on the piston rod to divide the housing into two chambers. An orifice through the baffle allows fluid to pass between the chambers to damp reciprocating movement. An electromagnetic driver within the housing is selectively energized to move a ferromagnetic plate between an open position, wherein fluid flows freely between the chambers, and a closed position, wherein the ferromagnetic plate blocks the orifice to prevent fluid flow between the chambers and lock the locking strut in position. A plurality of orifices may be spaced about the baffle, with the number and size of the orifices determining the damping capability of the locking strut. A plurality of drivers may be disposed within the housing to overcome fluid forces during movement of the locking strut between an extended and a retracted position.

    摘要: A text completion system that automatically displays a list of completion suggestions for a partial data entry in response to a pause in receipt of the data entry. To avoid annoying the user by displaying an excessive number of wrong suggestions, the text completion system applies search criteria to the partial data entry. If the partial data entry satisfies the search criteria, the text completion system obtains a prioritized list of word predictions for the partial data entry from a word prediction system. To further avoid annoying the user by displaying very short completion suggestions, the text completion system applies display criteria to the word predictions to obtain a prioritized list of completion suggestions that satisfy the display criteria. This prioritized list of completion suggestions is then displayed in a pop-up list box, typically immediately under and to the right of the partial data entry. The completion suggestions are positioned in the list based on a computed indication of likelihood of being correct. The user may accept a completion suggestion from the list by touching a stylus to the display screen over the position of the desired completion suggestion, or by using traditional selection and acceptance keystrokes, such as the "arrow" keys to select a completion suggestion and the "enter" key to accept the selected completion suggestion. Thus, the text completion system allows the user to complete the partial data entry without having to type the remaining letters of the complete data entry.

    摘要: A workpiece-supporting fence has a pair of movable fences movably attached to a fixed fence which is secured to a base of the device in which the fence is being used. The pair of movable fences are located on opposite sides of a working tool such as a saw blade. A fixed clamping arrangement is associated with each movable fence and provides a single point actuation member for each movable fence to clamp the movable fence to the fixed fence such that the movable fence is vertically aligned and flush with the fixed fence. In one embodiment, each movable fence is provided with a gap-filling flap which is pivotably secured to the movable fence to be movable between a lower and an upper position. In its lower position, the gap-filling flap minimizes the gap between the movable fence and the working tool. In its upper position, the gap-filling flap provides additional support when working with taller or thicker workpieces. The workpiece-supporting fence further includes a fence position indicator which allows for the positioning of one or both of the movable fences for providing clearances for a specific miter and/or bevel cut. In addition, the workpiece-supporting fence incorporates a detent system for locating the fence at tone or more of the most popular miter and/or beveling settings.
