Abstract: A wearable apparatus that pairs with a user is described herein. The apparatus includes a processor and a memory. The memory includes code that causes the processor to capture a representation of a identifying feature on a user. The representation is associated with the wearable apparatus. A representation of a wearer of the wearable apparatus is captured. The wearer is authorized to use the wearable apparatus if the representation of the identifying feature matches the representation of the wearer. The wearer is prevented from using the wearable apparatus if there is no match.

Abstract: In an example, a computing device is disclosed in which processing elements and other active devices may generate thermal irregularities such as hot spots on the casing of a computing device. In some cases, these hot spots may be undesirable from a comfort and usability standpoint or because they may result in thermal damage to system components. To remediate thermal irregularities, including hot spots, a localized depression may be provided in a casing or chassis to enlarge the air gap between the heat source and the bottom casing around the hot spot, so that the bottom casing skin temperature at the hot spot can be lowered with the increased air gap. A heat spreader may also be disposed above the localized depression to better distribute heat over a surface area. In some cases, ribbing may be provided to provide structural support to a heat spreader disposed over a localized depression.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing a slalom racing gate monitor system are provided herein. A system includes a microcontroller; a first, second, and third sensor, each coupled to the microcontroller, the first, second, and third sensors each having a field of view and disposed on a slalom pole, and disposed where the fields of view of the first, second, and third sensors substantially cover a 360 degree field of view around the slalom pole; wherein the microcontroller is to: obtain a sequence of sensor readings from a plurality of sensors of the first, second, and third sensors, each reading in the sequence of sensor readings indicating an object detected in the field of view of the respective sensor; determine whether the object passed the slalom pole on a correct side; and present a notification of whether the object passed the slalom pole on the correct side.

Abstract: In an example, a mobile computing device such as a tablet, laptop, or convertible is operable to couple to a docking station via high-frequency wireless such as WiGig at 60 GHz. Because high-frequency signals are highly directional, the mobile computing device is provided with a high-frequency antenna operable as a rotor. In one embodiment, the antenna is freely hinged to a gravitational pivot, and pivots toward the docking station responsive to gravitational torque. In another embodiment, an actuator drives the antenna to a correct angle responsive to a rotational sensor. In this case, an angle sweep may be performed around a midpoint to identify a best angle for high-frequency communication.
