摘要： Disclosed is a method for producing an optically active 3-methylcyclopentadecan-1-one which is characterized in that 2-cyclopentadecen-1-one is subjected to a 1,4-conjugate addition reaction of a methyl group by using a methylated organic metal in the presence of a copper catalyst, an enol anion scavenger and a specific optically active phosphoramidite for obtaining an optically active 3-methyl-1-cyclopentadecene derivative, and then the thus-obtained 3-methyl-1-cyclopentadecene derivative is subjected to a solvolysis.

In addition, it is to provide a lipid composition, which can show excellent thermal stability even in the case of high temperature at the time of keeping menthol and at the time of blending in a product, does not cause mutual aggregation of powders, particles, flakes, pellets, sticks and the like of menthol, and can maintain its shape retention property. From 10 to 50% by mass of sterols are added to and mixed with from 50 to 90% by mass of menthol, and the resultant is melted with heating. Paraffins may be further added and mixed in an amount of 20% by mass or less, based on the lipid composition.

摘要： A process for preparing an optically active dihydrosphingosine derivative is disclosed, comprising reducing a (2R,3R)-2-amino-3-hydroxyalkanoic acid derivative represented by formula (III): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.3 represents a straight-chain alkyl group having 7 to 21 carbon atoms; and R.sup.4 represents an amino group protecting group, (e.g., (2R,3R)-2-benzylamino-3-hydroxyoctadecanoic acid) with sodium tetrahydroborate in the presence of an acid. The process makes it feasible to produce an optically active dihydrosphingosine at high optical purity and through a simple process that is safe and easy to industrialize.

摘要： A topical composition for treating or preventing acne vulgaris which comprises at least one saturated or unsaturated chain alcohol having 18 carbon atoms represented by formula (1): ##STR1## wherein a dotted line represents either the presence or the absence of a double bond as an active ingredient, makes it possible to inhibit proliferation of Propionibacterium acnes, which causes acne vulgaris, or kill the bacterium to effectively treat or prevent acne vulgaris. The compound represented by formula (1) can be easily synthesized and has an extremely low toxicity. Furthermore, it exerts an excellent antibacterial effect on Propionibacterium acnes even when used at a relatively low concentration. Thus it can be used only in a small amount , which ensures a high safety.
