A device is provided by use of a helical substituted polyacetylene. The device comprises a structure comprised of a helical substituted polyacetylene having a helical main chain, and a pair of electrodes for applying a voltage or electric current to the structure, wherein the molecule of the helical substituted polyacetylene has a length larger than the distance between the pair of the electrodes.

This disclosure provides a slot array antenna, which includes an emission waveguide having a conductor surface where emission slot rows are formed and for guiding electromagnetic waves to be emitted from the emission slot rows, each of the emission slot rows having a plurality of emission slots are arrayed in line, and a lattice. The lattice includes a plurality of conductor walls formed in a planer shape so as to extend in a direction intersecting with the conductor surface and repeatedly arranged corresponding to the plurality of emission slots, and a base plate coupling and fixing the plurality of conductor walls thereto, the base plate being fastened to the conductor surface of the emission waveguide.

A helical-polyacetylene whose main chain has a helical structure includes a carbon double bond constituting the main chain and a side chain composed of an aromatic five- or six-membered ring that binds to one carbon atom of the carbon double bond. In the atoms constituting the five- or six-membered ring, two atoms binding to the atom that directly binds to the carbon atom of the main chain bind only any of five or six atoms constituting the five- or six-membered ring, and in the atoms constituting the five- or six-membered ring, at least one atom located most distant from the atom that directly binds to the carbon atom of the main chain is carbon.

A display method and apparatus are provided for enabling a user, whether or not he has experience, to readily detect a luminance level of a video image with high accuracy. A luminance level of a video signal of a video image is converted to color information to display a change in the luminance of the video image as a change in color. The conversion preferably involves a method of converting the luminance level to color information of three primary colors, red, green, blue, in accordance with a plurality of weights, respectively, a method of converting a luminance level in a predetermined range to color information having a changing rate larger than a changing rate of the luminance level, a method of converting a luminance level out of the predetermined range to color information of a maximum or a minimum level, or the like. Also, the input video signal is preferably displayed together with a converted video image side by side or one on another.

The invention provides a block polymer capable of being used as a molecular wire facilitating injection of carriers between itself and an electrode, and a device in which electrodes are bridged by one molecule. The block polymer has a main chain composed of polyacetylene having a spiral structure, and includes a coating insulating block and a conductive block. The coating insulating block has a polyacetylene unit structure having alkyl chains at its side chains through functional groups, the alkyl chains being arranged in a direction parallel to the major axis of the main chain. The conductive block has a polyacetylene unit structure having hydrogen atoms at its side chains through functional groups, the hydrogen atoms being arranged in a direction parallel to the major axis of the main chain. The device has the above-mentioned block polymer, and two or more electrodes.

According to one embodiment, a disk drive has a magnetic disk and a magnetic head having a spin-torque oscillator. The disk drive further has a head amplifier IC configured to supply a write signal and a drive signal to the magnetic head. The write signal corresponds to write data. The drive signal is supplied to generate a high-frequency magnetic field. The head amplifier IC continuously supplies a drive signal of normal level to the spin-torque oscillator, and supplies a drive signal of high level higher than the normal level, only for a prescribed time after the polarity inversion of the write signal.
