    摘要: A micromachined plate 11, called a torsion plate, selectively pivots upon a substrate responsively to electrical force so as to move an attached micromirror 12 in a same plane; thereby to accurately selectively intercept, and to reflect, a light beam 2 that is moving parallel to the substrate; forming thus an optomechanical switch 1. The electrical force may be electromagnetic 3 in nature or, preferably, electrostatic. In various embodiments the pivoting torsion plate 11 with the micromirror 12 affixed may be (i) biased off the substrate by a three-dimensional structure 14 and/or by a “reshaped” torsion beam 11c, (ii) bent as plate 11d, and operated push OR pull, push AND pull, or push AND push, in a rocking operation, (iii) elevated above the substrate upon a self-assembling “micro-elevator structure” 16, and/or (iv) moved greatly in angular position by action of a “micro-flap” 11f. A new design spring-loaded landing electrode 18, and a torsion microhinge 131-134, further enhance performance. The micromachined, or Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS), optomechanical switch 1 so formed is both fast and accurate to switch light over large angles up to 180° while being highly resistant to sticking, or “stiction”.

Using a beam steering device that is rotatable about two orthogonal axes, wavelength components of different channels are scanned onto the light detector in accordance with programmable parameters. The programmable parameters specify the light detector to which the wavelength components are directed, the order the wavelength components are monitored by the light detector, and the time duration over which each of the wavelength components is monitored by the light detector.

    摘要: Described are tunable multiport optical filters that filter systems with many optical channels in a convenient and cost-effective manner. The tunable multiport optical filters of the invention are simple in design and have few optical components. The basic elements are a dispersion element and a rotating reflector. With properly arranged arrays of input and output optical fibers, individual wavelength components from a selected input beam are spatially separated and steered by the rotating reflector to selected output locations. The optical properties from the selected components may be measured by one or more photodetectors. The filters are also useful for selecting and routing optical signals.

    摘要: A system and method of automatically controlling a terminal are disclosed. In one aspect, there is a method comprising: installing a sensing device in a terminal; and automatically controlling operations of the terminal when a certain object is detected by the sensing device within a predetermined range. According to certain aspects, a hard disk may be subjected to a full protection, power supplied to peripherals such as a keyboard or a mouse is saved. Furthermore, in other aspects, an automatic power-up/down operation to the terminal, automatic forward and backward operations of a browser and an automatic page-flipping operation of application software may be implemented. In another aspect, there is a control system for the terminal and the terminal equipped with such a control system.
