    Abstract: Sensors for imaging boreholes via the detection of electrical and optical properties may be subject to harsh conditions downhole, such as from pressure and temperature. In addition, these sensors may be subject to impact, such as tension, elongation, and compression forces, along the wall of the borehole. The harsh conditions downhole and impacts on the sensor can lead to premature wear and even breaking. The present disclosure generally relates to an apparatus for measuring electrical and optical properties of the borehole and methods for manufacturing the apparatus.

    Abstract: Representative implementations of devices and techniques provide a system arranged to deploy and retrieve a device such as an electric submersible pump with respect to a well or other like formation. An injection device for coiled tubing is modified to grip and inject a cable in order to lower a pump or like device into a wellbore. Modification to the tube injection device may include addition of cable-gripping blocks to the injection components. Multiple injection devices can be utilized to open and close in coordination in order to let a large connector or termination on the cable pass through an open injector while a closed injector maintains a grip on the cable.

    Abstract: Cable termination assemblies and processes for making and using same. In some examples, the cable termination assembly can include a lower housing and a rope socket housing can be disposed at least partially within a lower housing bore defined by a lower housing inner surface. At least one rope socket retainer can be disposed at least partially within a rope socket bore defined by an inner surface of the rope socket housing. The rope socket housing and rope socket retainer can be configured to secure the rope socket housing to a first set of armor wires of a cable, extending at least partially through the rope socket bore, while leaving interstitial gaps between individual armor wires of the first set of armor wires. A filler can be disposed between the individual armor wires of the first set of armor wires that at least partially fills the interstitial gaps.

    Abstract: A torque-balanced, gas-blocking wireline cable and a method of making the cable includes an electrically conductive cable core for transmitting electrical power and surrounding inner and outer layers of a plurality of armor wires. Gas blocking is achieved by placing a soft polymer layer over the core before the inner wires are cabled thereon. The inner wires imbed partially into the soft polymer layer such that no gaps are left between the inner wires and the core. A second soft polymer layer is optionally extruded over the inner wires before the outer wires are applied. The second soft polymer layer fills any spaces between the inner and outer wire layers and prevents pressurized gas from infiltrating between the wires. The inner wires have larger diameters than the outer wires such that the inner wires carry approximately 60% of the load and torque imbalance is prevented.

    Abstract: An apparatus or system comprising, or a method utilizing, a pressure-tight head assembly coupling a multi-conductor wireline cable operable for downhole operations within a borehole extending into a subterranean formation. The head assembly comprises: an upper head attachment; a lower head attachment; an upper compression seal assembly; a gripper cone; and a rope socket. The upper compression seal assembly is threaded into and/or otherwise coupled to the upper head attachment in a manner causing the gripper cone to tighten onto the cable jacket.
