Abstract: A method for producing thing glass strips is provided that avoids camber defects. The method includes using a glass strip forming device that has a drawing device; drawing, using the drawing device, the thin glass strip away from the glass strip forming device; measuring, using a measuring device, variables that are dependent on a differing length of edges of the thin glass strip at at least two measurement locations spaced apart transversely to a longitudinal extension of the thin glass strip; determining a difference or a quotient of the variables. The difference or the quotient is used to determine a control variable by which the glass strip forming device is controlled so as to counteract a difference in velocities of the thin glass strip between the two opposite edges.

Abstract: A method is provided that includes producing filamentary damages in a volume of a glass or glass ceramic element adjacently aligned along a separation line and extend obliquely relative to a surface of the glass or glass ceramic element; and separating a portion from the glass or glass ceramic element along the separation line. The step of producing the filamentary damages includes directing laser pulses of an ultrashort pulse laser obliquely on the surface so that the laser pulses have a light propagation direction that extends obliquely relative to the surface and so that the filamentary damages resulting from the laser pulses have the longitudinal extension that extends obliquely relative to the surface; generating a plasma within the volume with the laser pulses; and displacing the laser pulses at points of incidence over the surface along the separation line.

Abstract: A method for processing glass elements is provided. The method includes introducing a perforation line for parting a glass element introduced into the glass element during or after a hot processing process at an elevated temperature of at least 100° C. Spaced-apart filamentary flaws are introduced into the glass element along the predetermined course of the perforation line by a pulsed laser beam of an ultrashort pulse laser, and, during or after the introduction of the filamentary flaws, the glass element is cooled down so as to produce a temperature gradient, which induces a mechanical stress at the filamentary flaws, whereby the breaking force required for parting the glass element along the perforation line is reduced.

Abstract: A method is provided for separating a portion from a sheet-like glass or glass ceramic element along an intended separation line to divide the element into the portion and a main part. The method includes producing filamentary damages a volume of the glass or glass ceramic element adjacently aligned along the separation line, the filamentary damages are produced by laser pulses of a laser, the glass or glass ceramic element comprises a material that is transparent for the laser pulses; displacing incidence points of the laser pulses on a surface of the glass or glass ceramic element thereof along the separation line; and subjecting the material of the glass or glass ceramic element located in a region of the portion to a phase transition so that the material contracts to detach the portion from the main part at the adjacently aligned filamentary damages along the separation line, while the main part remains intact as a whole.

Abstract: A method for cutting a thin glass including the steps of guiding, by a transport device, the thin glass ribbon over a levitation support, and directing, within a range of the levitation support, a laser beam onto the thin glass ribbon, which heats up the thin glass ribbon at an impingement point of the laser beam. The method also includes the step of blowing, by a cooling jet generator, a cooling fluid onto the track heated by the laser beam so that a region heated by the laser beam is cooled down and a mechanical stress is created. The cooling fluid contains vapor of a liquid at a saturation ratio of at least 0.5 or a plurality of liquid droplets. The liquid droplets form a contact angle on a surface of the thin glass ribbon which is smaller than that of water on the same surface.

Abstract: A method for producing ultra-thin glass sheets is provided that results in glass sheets with high edge strength. The method includes: hot forming a continuous glass ribbon with a glass thickness from molten glass; annealing the glass ribbon with an annealing rate chosen based on the glass thickness; producing a laser beam focus area that is longer than the glass thickness; introducing filamentary defects into the glass ribbon using the laser beam so that the filamentary defects extend from one face to the opposite face and are spaced apart from one another along the breaking lines to produce transverse breaking lines and longitudinal breaking lines with margins each comprising a thickened bead; separating the beads along the longitudinal breaking lines and separating glass sheets by severing along the transverse breaking lines.

Abstract: A method for producing a cavity in a substrate composed of hard brittle material is provided. A laser beam of an ultrashort pulse laser is directed a side surface of the substrate and is concentrated by a focusing optical unit to form an elongated focus in the substrate. Incident energy of the laser beam produces a filament-shaped flaw in a volume of the substrate. The filament-shaped flaw extends into the volume to a predetermined depth and does not pass through the substrate. To produce the filament-shaped flaw, the ultrashort pulse laser radiates in a pulse or a pulse packet having at least two successive laser pulses. After at least two filament-shaped flaws are introduced, the substrate is exposed to an etching medium which removes material of the substrate and widens the at least two filament-shaped flaws to form filaments. At least two filaments are connected to form a cavity.
