摘要: Methods and structures for reducing the moisture penetration in an optical device such as an isolator, collimator, filters, circulators, and the like. Methods can include placing an optical cover over the opening(s) of the housing of the optical device. The optical cover can be bonded by epoxy or metallic seal. A moisture prevention coating can be placed over the seal line between the optical cover and the housing to further enhance moisture prevention.

摘要: A general method is given for screening laser diodes for electrostatic discharge, (ESD), damage. The laser diode may be selectively isolated from the laser driver so that a current-voltage (I-V), curve can be taken and then compared to curves taken previously on the same laser diode to ascertain the possibility of ESD damage. Presumably the initial I-V curve will be representative of the characteristics of that particular laser in the undamaged state. Such an initial curve may be supplied by the manufacturer and may be a curve specific to a particular laser diode. Comparison with a standard curve is not sufficient to determine ESD damage in the early stages of failure. Some embodiments focus on isolating the laser diode from the laser driver, storing the information locally in the transceiver, and providing some analysis resulting in flagging laser diodes showing changes that are indicative of ESD damage.

摘要: An antimicrobial coating system and method are described. In some embodiments, a system may include a composition. The composition may include one or more bridged polycyclic compounds. At least one of the bridged polycyclic compounds may include at least two cyclic groups, and at least two of the cyclic groups may include quaternary ammonium moieties. In some embodiments, a method may include applying an antimicrobial coating to an oral surface, a surface of a construction substrate, a surface of a marine substrate, a surface of a medical device, or a surface of a personal care device. The protective coating may be antimicrobial. A protective coating may include antimicrobial bridged polycyclic compounds. Bridged polycyclic compounds may include quaternary ammonium compounds. Bridged polycyclic compounds based coating systems may impart self-cleaning properties to a surface (e.g., a tooth surface).

摘要: A variable electrochromic optical attenuator is provided that is used to control the intensity of a light signal. The electrochromic optical attenuator comprises a semi-transparent electrochromic device, and a plurality of electrodes configured to conduct electricity to the electrochromic device such that the transparency of the electrochromic device will be affected by an amount proportional to the magnitude of the electricity applied to the plurality of electrodes. The intensity of the light signal transmitted through the electrochromic device is affected by an amount proportional to the magnitude of the electricity applied to the plurality of electrodes. The electrochromic optical attenuator also includes at least one polarizing element having an optical polarization axis, wherein the polarizing element transmits a portion of the light signal proportional to the angular difference between the optical polarization axis of the light signal and that of the polarizing element. In one embodiment, the electrochromic optical attenuator is employed in a laser package that includes a laser, a pair of polarizing elements, and a faraday rotator.

摘要: A mattress has a quilted internal pillow wherein one or more internal layers of material are quilt-stitched prior to encapsulation in mattress upholstery. The quilted internal pillow is positioned relative to a support surface of an innerspring or spring core of a mattress to provide support characteristics determined by the quilt stitch pattern. In a related method of manufacture of a mattress with an internal quilt stitched pillow, the layer or layers of the pillow are processed through a quilter stitching machine and then assembled in combination with a mattress spring core and upholstery. The quilted internal pillow may be located adjacent to the spring core, spaced from the spring core by other internal layers of material, or located adjacent to or within a mattress pillowtop, and in each embodiment on one or both sides of the mattress.

摘要: This invention relates generally to fasteners, and more particularly to slide fasteners, commonly known as zippers, and a method of forming the same, which may be used to fasten three or more sets of links together, as well as, to provide a collapsible, rigid support for loads which may be applied axially and laterally to the fastened together links. The invention is easily stored and uses a single slider for interlocking the separate sets of elements in a simple and effective manner. The tapes have multiple links secured thereto and extend orthogonally therefrom. The slider has guideways through which the links may pass. The tapes and the links are passed downward through the slider element to thereby intersperse and interlock the links and thus the tape. The opposite movement through the slider causes the links to be separated and disjoined. The invention also includes a slide fastener having three tapes with essentially standard slide fastener links attached thereto and a slider which intersperses the links to join the tapes in a columnar fashion and which effectively disjoins the links.
