The electrophotographic photoconductor includes an electrically conductive substrate and a photosensitive film on the substrate. The photosensitive film contains a charge generation agent and a phosphinate compound. The photoconductor may be of either a monolayer or a laminate construction. In the case of a laminate type photoconductor, the phosphinate compound is incorporated into the charge transport layer. A method of making an electrophotographic photoconductor adds a phosphinate additive to the coating liquid for a photosensitive film to improve stability of the coating liquid. The method involves producing a coating liquid containing a phosphinate compound and coating a conductive substrate with the coating liquid to form a photosensitive film.

C. or lower. The photoconductor has good electric characteristics, particularly a low residual potential.

A first recess, which is sunk downwardly in the axial direction, is formed on a first end surface of the approximately cylindrical body so as to surround a boss. A second recess, which is sunk upwardly in the axial direction, is formed on a second end surface of the approximately cylindrical body so as to surround the suction port. At least one communication hole provides fluid communication between the first recess and the second recess. Sewage in the second recess is introduced into the first recess through the at least one communication hole to thereby effectively remove an air pocket trapped on the first end surface of the impeller and in the first recess.

The undercoat layer permits (a) attaining stable electric potential characteristics in all environments ranging from low temperature and low humidity environments to high temperature and high humidity environments, (b) suppressing the occurrence of printing defects and density differences, and (c) simultaneously attaining transfer restorability and restorability from intense light-induced fatigue even in a wide variety of usages and operation environments.
