摘要: A vapor separator for an outboard motor is disclosed. The outboard motor has a cowling and a water propulsion device. An internal combustion engine is positioned in the cowling and arranged to propel the water propulsion device. The engine includes a top and a bottom side. The engine also includes an engine block defining at least one cylinder bore therein. A crankshaft is supported for rotation with respect to the engine block and is located in a first chamber. A camshaft is supported for rotation with respect to the engine block and is located in a second chamber. The engine further includes a lubrication system for the lubrication of the crankshaft and the camshaft. A lubrication collection area is located on the bottom side of the engine for the gravitational collection of engine lubrication fluid from the first chamber and the second chamber. A breather chamber is located on the top side of the engine first passage providing fluid communication between the lubrication collection area and the breather chamber and a second passage in communication between the second chamber and the first passage wherein the second passage is substantially oblique to the first passage.

摘要: A fuel injector arrangement for an internal combustion engine of the type utilized to power an outboard motor of a watercraft is disclosed. The engine is oriented with its crankshaft vertically extending, such that the engine has a top and a bottom, a first end and a second end, and a side between the ends. An intake passage leads through a side of the engine to a combustion chamber therein. A fuel injector is positioned along the side of the engine and arranged to deliver fuel into air flowing through the passage. In one arrangement, the fuel injector is connected to an intake manifold connected to the side of the engine and having a passage therethrough leading to the intake passage. In this arrangement, a fuel delivery passage is formed in the manifold through which fuel is delivered to the injector. In a second embodiment, the fuel injector is connected to a cylinder head of the engine and the fuel delivery passage is formed in the cylinder head.

摘要: A feedback control system and method for operating an internal combustion engine to provide the desired air/fuel ratio under all running conditions. The feedback control operates to modify the fuel/air ratio from that achieved by a basic setting that is derived from parameters of engine performance so as to maintain the desired ratio. The feedback control adjusts the air/fuel ratio in two different modes. In a first lean-set mode, when the air/fuel ratio is indicated to be lean, the feedback control adjusts the air/fuel mixture in a first large step and then a number of smaller incremental steps. In a second normal-operational mode, when adjustments to the air/fuel ratio is indicated to be rich, the feedback control adjusts the air/fuel mixture in a first large and then several smaller incremental steps, these steps being larger and more closely spaced in time than their respective counterpart steps in the lean-set mode.

摘要: An improved exhaust probe arrangement within an exhaust system of a small watercraft increases the accuracy of the probe's readings. The aperture is located upstream of a point where cooling water is introduced into the exhaust system for silencing purposes. As a result, the ingress and egress of exhaust gases flow into and out of the aperture is generally unimpeded by the cooling water. The tendency of water to enter and clog the aperture is also reduced. The precision of the exhaust probe measurements consequently is greatly increased.

摘要: Several embodiments of feedback control systems for either two or four-cycle engines that employ sensors such as oxygen sensors. The systems include an arrangement wherein the sensor condition is determined by comparing the response time with a normal response time. If the time of response is outside of the normal range, compensation may be made so as to permit continued feedback control. Embodiments are also describe that adjust the maximum permissible injection amount and also revert to an open control if the deterioration is more any predetermined amount.
