摘要: Disclosed example apparatus to determine volume of switching (VoS) among television programs examine first viewing data associated with a first time period and second viewing data associated with a second time period to identify a first set of panelists represented in both the first and second viewing data; in response to a size of the first set of panelists satisfying both first and second thresholds, estimate the VoS based on a first subset of the first viewing data and a second subset of the second viewing data associated with the first set of panelists; and in response to the size of the first set of panelists satisfying the first but not the second threshold, estimate the VoS based on the first and second subsets, and a third subset of the first viewing data and a fourth subset of the second viewing data associated with a second set of panelists.

摘要: Methods and apparatus to calibrate media ratings based on return path data are disclosed. An apparatus includes a processor and memory including instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to: determine an initial rating for the media provided in a first geographic area based on return path data (RPD) tuning information obtained from RPD devices in subscriber households in the first geographic area; determine a first panelist rating for the media provided in a second geographic area based on first panel tuning information obtained from first metering devices in a first subset of panelist households in the second geographic area; determine a nonsubscriber calibration factor based on the first panelist rating; and determine a final rating for the media in the first geographic area by modifying the initial rating based on the nonsubscriber calibration factor.

摘要: The present invention is directed to a method and to a device of servicing a channel change request in a digital network with at least a client and a server. The method comprising transmitting a multimedia stream using a multicast stream and a unicast stream, wherein a transcoder reorganizes the audio and video packets of the elementary stream of the multimedia stream on a time base, such that the audio and video packets related to the same frame are progressively sent adjacent to each other, on time base, in the serialized transport stream of the multicast stream. The channel change request from the client is an http unicast request and the server reply contains an http header and an http body; the http header contains parameters to setup a decoder at the client, as given in the request from the client to the server; a burst overhead in the unicast stream is set according to the parameters to setup the decoder and computed by the client; the parameters are related to the bandwidth of the client internet access already under usage comprising the case when more than one Set-Top-Box (STB) is running in the same household. The http body contains the PMT (Program Map Table) information relevant to the first independently decodable frame.

The method includes, responsive to the first input, sending list data to a display device coupled to the second device, where the list data enables a display of a list of previously displayed channels. The list includes multiple elements and a selection indicator associated with a first element of the list. Each element of the multiple elements corresponds to a previously displayed channel. The method includes receiving, from the first device, second input corresponding to selection of a next channel option. The method also includes sending updated list data based on the second input to the display device. The updated list data updates the display to change an association of the selection indicator from the first element to a second element of the list.

In some implementations a method for selectively presenting broadcast content is provided, the method comprising: receiving user information; associating one or more athletes, each on a roster of a team in a sports organization, with the user based on the user information; identifying broadcast programs that a user device can present; determining broadcast programs that depict a game between teams in the sports organization that are relevant to an athlete associated with the user based on program metadata; receiving event metadata for the relevant broadcast programs that is indicative of events in the game depicted therein; determining that a portion of the first broadcast program is relevant to a first entity based on the event metadata; and causing the user device to present the portion of the first broadcast.

摘要: Methods and systems for multi-path video and network channels may comprise a communication device comprising a wideband tuner (WB) and a narrowband tuner (NB). A video channel and a network channel may be received in the WB when the device is operating in a first stage. A video channel and a network channel may be received in the WB and the network channel may also be received in the NB when the device is operating in a second stage. The network channel may be received in the NB when the device is operating in a third stage. The reception of the network channel from both the WB and NB may enable a continuous reception of the network channel in a transition between the first and third stages. The WB may be operable to receive a plurality of channels and the NB may be operable to receive a single channel.

摘要: Ensuring a long-term average bitrate for channels of a statistical multiplexing meets or exceeds a specified limit. An arbitrary target average bitrate for each of a set of channels of the statistical multiplexer is received. The long-term average bit rate for each channel of the statistical multiplexer is tracked. For each allocation cycle of the statistical multiplexer, bitrates to each encoder are assigned by splitting a bit allocation pool of the statistical multiplexer into a first portion and a second portion. The first portion is allocated to maximize video quality and the second portion is allocated to minimize a gap between the set of channels that are below their arbitrary target average bitrate based on the long-term average bit rate for the set of channels. Thereafter, the bit rates allocated from the first and second portions are distributed to the encoders encoding/transcoding the set of channels.

A non-tunable device (e.g., a device without the capability to tune to a particular channel) can access a particular channel via a tunable device (e.g., a device with the capability to tune to the particular channel). A computing device can facilitate content tuning. As an example, the non-tunable device can send user information (e.g., a request for content) to the computing device. The computing device can reserve the available tuner and transmit the tuning information (e.g., tuner reservation identifier) to the non-tunable device. Upon receiving the tuning information, the non-tunable device can transmit a tuning request (e.g., all or portion of tuning information, device identifier) to the tunable device. Upon receiving the tuning request, the tunable device can tune to the particular requested channel and transmit a data asset (e.g., requested content, tuning denial) to the non-tunable device.

摘要: A computing system will compare various reference fingerprints each representing a reference media stream broadcast on a different respective known channel, and the computing system will determine that a plurality of the reference fingerprints match each other, thus defining a multi-match group of the matching reference fingerprints. Further, the computing system will determine that a query fingerprint representing a media stream being rendered by a media presentation device matches the multi-match group, thus raising a question of which channel is carrying the media stream that is being rendered by the media presentation device. By considering one or more attributes of the query fingerprint, the server may then disambiguate and thereby determine the channel at issue, and the server may in turn take channel-specific action.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for improving channel browsing experience for users by presenting an automatically appearing and automatically scrolling program guide are described. The methods and apparatus are well suited for use with remote control devices with limited numbers of input buttons, e.g., under five buttons, but can be used with remote controls with more buttons. The program guide can be used to allow access to a grid guide to users of hospital remotes or other remotes with limited input keys, e.g., an up down arrow and/or a power button. The method in some embodiments uses time spent on a channel in combination with user selection of an input key to determine an action to be taken, e.g., enter or display the program grid guide and/or select a channel and/or corresponding program being displayed in the grid guide.
