Abstract:
An oil-through type push rod for, for instance, internal combustion engines including a metal pipe and a metal end fitting which has an oil hole formed therein and is welded to the end of the metal pipe, the metal pipe being provided with a covering layer of a low-melting-point metal for fixing a welding spatter generated during welding, and such a low-melting-point metal covering layer being disposed on at least an inside wall surface of the metal pipe so as to be near an area where the metal end fitting is welded
Abstract:
A sheet metal rocker arm manufactured by the steps of punching one metal plate to form a blank having a predetermined contour and through holes, and subjecting this blank to a bending work based on a press work to form a pair of side walls parallel to each other and a connecting portion for connecting the both ends of the side walls in the width direction thereof. This rocker arm is also provided with at least a pair of though holes formed at positions which are aligned with each other on the both side walls and at least one engagement portion provided in a part of the connecting portion. The thickness of at least one engagement portion, is formed to be greater than the thickness of the both side walls.

Abstract:
A rocker arm, which opens and closes a valve when tilted by a cam and is provided on a cylinder head, has a body made of sheet metal. The body is constituted in such a manner that one metal plate blank is bent into a substantially U shape so that a pair of opposed side walls and connecting walls for connecting the side walls are provided. A convex valve fitting section is provided on the connecting walls of the body by press working including a non-uniform cross section process producing plastic flow of material.
Abstract:
A lever-type cam follower (1) of a thin-walled material like sheet metal is proposed. It has a simply structured valve stem guidance in the region of one of its ends (5). The guidance comprises a separate securing element (6) with a basically U-shaped cross-section. A web (9) of the securing element (6) bears against a crossbeam (3) of the cam follower (1) and possesses an opening (11), for example punched, for receiving a valve stem.
Abstract:
A push rod includes a rod body and a steel ball bonded to at least one of end faces of the rod body by an electric resistance welding. The rod body 2 is formed from an aluminum alloy. Thus, it is possible to provide a push rod which is lightweight and which can be produced at an inexpensive cost.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an internal combustion engine component, such as a cylinder head or tappet block, which is adaptable to a variety of pushrod positions and angles. A large pushrod aperture is formed in the engine component. The aperture is large enough to accommodate one or more pushrods passing therethrough at a variety of different angles and positions. A composite pushrod hole adapter plate is attached to the engine component over the aperture. The adapter plate has one or more pushrod holes machined therethrough at desired angles and positions. A counter bore is preferably formed around each pushrod hole to provide a seat for the end of a pushrod housing. A plurality of different adapter plates, having pushrod holes and counter bores formed therein at different angles and positions, may alternatively be attached to the engine component, thereby adapting the engine component for use in combination with various different engine designs. The component may be provided along with one or more adapter plates as a kit which may be assembled onto an internal combustion engine such that a pushrod passes coaxially through each pushrod hole in the adapter plate and an end of a pushrod housing is positioned in the counter bore around the pushrod hole to form a seal between the adapter plate and the pushrod housing.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for forming an outwardly extending tubular portion in a side wall of a workpiece, such as a rocker arm. The method includes the following steps: (1) positioning the workpiece in a punch press having a central shaft with a movable punch mounted in an aperture formed in the central shaft for lateral sliding movement with respect to the shaft; (b) extending the central shaft into the interior cavity of the workpiece; and (c) actuating lateral sliding movement of the movable punch against the side wall of the workpiece to cold form the outwardly extending tubular portion in the side wall.
Abstract:
An end of a rocker arm proper is formed into a stepped shape and includes a base section and a mounting section projecting outwardly from the base section. A ceramic tip and a soldering or brazing metal have the same plane figure as the mounting section. The ceramic tip is soldered or brazed to the mounting section by means of a continuous furnace. During conveyance by a conveyor to and from the continuous furnace, the ceramic tip and the soldering or brazing metal are held in place on the mounting section by a jig. The jig is in the form of a framework and adapted to be installed on the base section and fittingly receive therein the mounting section. The jig is also adapted to fittingly receive therein the ceramic tip and the soldering or brazing metal.
Abstract:
A pivot rod, such as a push rod of the type found included in fuel injector drive trains and engine cylinder valve drive trains, has a mounting shaft with an interior receiving space at at least one end thereof, and a pivot insert formed of a ceramic material that is positioned with a first portion thereof disposed within the receiving space of the mounting shaft and a second portion thereof projecting axially beyond the end of the mounting shaft. To avoid tensile "hoop" stresses from exceeding the maximum tensile principle stress of the ceramic material of the pivot insert, despite the use of an interference fit securement between the pivot insert and the mounting shaft, and despite variations in the degree of diametral interference existing between the internal diameter of the receiving space and the external diameter of the inserted pivot insert portion resulting from manufacturing tolerances, the wall of the pivot shaft taking part in the interference fit securement has its thickness and material composition coordinated with the maximum tensile principle stress so that the wall is plastically deformed by the pivot insert during formation of the interference fit securement. When an axially projecting portion of the pivot insert has an abutment surface in abutting engagement upon an end surface of the mounting shaft, the axial length of the interference fit securement between the pivot insert and mounting shaft is also coordinated to the maximum tensile principle stress of the ceramic material.
