Abstract:
During an unsupported roll change, a flap of paper resulting at the joining point can lead to disruptions in a processing station situated down-stream. According to the invention, the paper web (1) is advanced on a carrying element that is moved faster than the paper web (1), for example, on a suction roll (5). Said carrying element is arranged so close to the continuous paper web (1) that it catches the flap (8) of paper, which is located on the paper web (1), with frictional engagement. The flap (8) of paper is advanced with its rear side on the paper web (1) in a sliding manner and in relation to said paper web (1) in order to cause the leading part of the flap (8) of paper to arch in a wavelike manner. The arched flap (8) of paper strikes a blade (6) and is cut away until it can no longer cause any disruptions.
Abstract:
Pieces are cut out from a sheet material by means of an installation comprising a cutting-out table (12) receiving the sheet material (30) from a loading station (12), and an unloading station (16) for unloading cut-out pieces. A flexible sealing film (32) is brought onto the sheet material upstream from the cutting-out table, and it is applied by establishing suction at the surface of the cutting-out table. After cutting-out, at least the skeleton (32′) of the sealing film is separated at the downstream end of the cutting-out table in order to be recovered. The recovery is preformed by automatic winding-up outside the unloading station, it being possible to deposit fastenings on the sealing film so that they straddle the cutting-out lines, or else said recovery is performed by sucking up the fragments of sealing film by means of a rotary member bearing against the sheet material.
Abstract:
A design is formed in a carpet secured to a table with a carriage controlled and moved over the table by a computer. A carver is mounted to the carriage and is computer-controlled to carve a design into the secured carpet. Also, a separator is mounted to the carriage and is computer-controlled to separate the carved carpet into a plurality of pieces. The secured carpet has a grain extending in a first particular direction, and carving in a second particular direction produces an actual result offset from an intended result by a quantified offset. The first direction and second directions are determined and a relationship therebetween is calculated. An offset associated with such relationship is then determined, and the determined offset is employed to position a carver during carving in the second direction. Thus, the employed offset produces an actual result that aligns with the intended result. A carpet tool during operation emits vibrations at a plurality of frequencies and during normal operation emits vibrations at a particular dominant frequency. The emitted vibrations are sensed, and it is determined whether the sensed vibrations are within a normal range about the particular dominant frequency. If not, a mechanical malfunction is presumed and carpet tool operation stops. In a variation, an obstructing malfunction such as a carver snagging on carpet is alleviated by use of a spring hinge mount for such carver.
Abstract:
A winding device has a drive shaft having a flange, and a holder rotatably mounted on the drive shaft in covering relation to the flange, for winding the web therearound. The holder has a first torque adjustment plate rotatably mounted on the drive shaft and having a surface disposed in facing relation to a surface of the flange, the first torque adjustment plate supporting a plurality of magnets on the surface thereof, and a second torque adjustment plate rotatably mounted on the drive shaft and having a surface disposed in facing relation to an opposite surface of the flange, the second torque adjustment plate supporting a plurality of magnets on the surface thereof. The winding device is capable of winding relatively wide webs having a large thickness ranging from 100 to 150 &mgr;m, e.g., photographic photosensitive webs (films), with a low tension fluctuation ratio of ±5% or less, while producing large tension easily and stably. The winding device is constructed for easy maintenance.
Abstract:
A paper web is drawn into a printing and can be guided along a selected one of several paths. The paper web is weakened along a line of separation and is then held by a retaining system that can move the web in a conveying direction along a first path. The web is fed to a different conveying path and is separated ot torn along the line of separation. This line of separation or weakening is formed at an angle to the production direction.
Abstract:
A rotating shearing device for cropping fast-running rolling stock, in particular wire, includes two axially cutting annular knives which rotate about their axes at the same rotational speed. The two axially cutting annular knives include end cutting edges directed toward one another which converge to the clearance required for separating running stock during the cutting operation and lie in planes which are arranged at an acute angle to one another and intersect one another in a line. The rolling stock is guided toward the shearing device by a front guide and guided away from the shearing device by a rear guide. The front guide is pivotable to change in the relative position between the rolling stock and the cutting body so that the rolling stock may be guided either through the space between the annular knives which is free for the cut-free passage of the rolling stock or into the wedge-shaped cutting region of the annular knives. The rear guide part arranged behind the shearing device is also pivotable between a lower end and upper end position.
Abstract:
An apparatus for continuously transporting, separating, and changing the path of webs in machines for processing webs prior to further processing are disclosed. A web consisting of at least one ribbon of material is conveyed by a pair of nip rollers arranged in a first transport path. When it is desired to separate and convey the web, for example when the web is of insufficient quality, a separating flap pivotally mounted on a first rotary axis located above the first transport path pivots downward cutting and directing the web to a second transport path. A blade flap pivotally mounted on a second rotary axis located below the first transport path opens and closes the transport path to the web. When the blade flap is in the closed position it bridges a gap between a lower guide and a guide section to allow the conveyance of a web through the first transport path.
Abstract:
An applicator wheel and guide system are provided in order to accurately align and position web material, either as discrete lengths or as a continuous strip, to articles or a continuous web. Specifically, the guide system includes a lateral edge guide disc rotatable with the applicator wheel which exhibits an edge guide surface at a first point along the periphery of the wheel applicator to precisely laterally align the web material and which moves radially inward from the surface of the applicator wheel at an application point so as not to obstruct the application of the web material to the articles or continuous web moved at a constant rate thereby. Moreover, the guide system includes the provision of an air bar for forming a loop in the supplied strip of web material prior to handling by the wheel applicator. The air bar eliminates roller inertia and guarantees consistent lengths of discrete lengths of web material to be applied to articles or a web when used on a wobbler arm. The edge guide and the air bar increase the accuracy with which web material can be successfully applied to articles or a web with regard to lateral and length alignment, respectively.

Abstract:
An off-line terminal, located at an airline boarding gate processes composite tickets bearing a magnetic stripe. Processing includes: authenticating, verifying, recording, canceling, bursting into component sections and sorting. Operations are controlled, logged and interrelated in accordance with ticket content and operating programs. Structurally, a processing computer cooperates with magnetic stripe transducers, a printer, a burster, signal lamps and a plurality of document-direction gates to select and control the path of individual ticket components. An additional magnetic sensor for ticket components (e.g. boarding passes) enables control of passenger movements after initial clearance with ticket processing.
