摘要: A control assembly 12 for use within a vehicle 10 having an engine 14 and which selectively controls the speed of the engine 14 in order to increase fuel efficiency and to effect relatively smooth starting and stopping of the engine. Particularly, in one embodiment, control assembly 12 cooperatively operates with a starter/alternator assembly 20 and is adapted for use with hybrid vehicles employing a start/stop powertrain assembly, wherein fuel efficiency is increased by selectively stopping engine operation when the vehicle has stopped.

摘要: A system of preserving a starter/alternator in an I.C. engine system installation from excessive operation in the starter mode is disclosed. The system describes a method of comparing the respective rotational speeds of the starter/alternator and I.C. engine in starter mode first to each other and then, if the same, to a predetermined threshold speed. If an overspeed condition is detected, disabling the starter/alternator in starter mode. In addition, if a predetermined number of I.C. engine start sequences have occurred without successful I.C. engine operation, the starter mode is disabled for a predetermined period of time. If several start failures have been detected, the starter/alternator can be disabled until a repair of the I.C. engine fault can be made. Where the respective rotational speeds of the starter/alternator and I.C. engine differ, the system controller follows a series of logic steps to determine the fault and thereafter either notify the system controller and/or disable the starter/alternator.

摘要: A starter which is capable of smoothly and reliably starting an internal combustion engine even though an electric motor employed is relatively small in size and output, thereby making it possible to minimize power consumption of the electric motor, to miniaturize the capacity of battery, to reduce the total weight of the starter, to enhance the durability of the starter, and to suppress the generation of failure of the starter. This starter comprises a buffering/power-accumulating means disposed midway along a power transmission system between a driving member and a driven member, wherein the buffering/power-accumulating means is enabled, during the driving process, to accumulate the power supplied through the driving process while alleviating any impact to the driven member, the accumulated power being subsequently employed to drive the driven member, and wherein the driving member is an electric motor.

摘要: A method of starting a multi-cylinder, direct-injection, internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle in particular without using a starter motor is described. The position of a piston in a cylinder of the internal combustion engine is determined, and fuel is injected into a combustion chamber of the cylinder whose piston is in a working phase, and the fuel is ignited immediately thereafter, thus triggering the starting operation. To improve the processing of the mixture during the starting operation, as the starting operation continues, immediately after ignition of the fuel in the cylinder which is in the working phase, fuel is injected into a combustion chamber of another cylinder whose piston is in an intake phase, and the injected fuel is ignited while still in the intake phase.

摘要: The invention relates to a method for starting a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine (1), especially of a motor vehicle. The position of a piston (2) in a cylinder (3) of the engine (1) is determined and fuel is injected into a combustion chamber (4) of that cylinder (3) whose piston (2) is disposed in a work phase. In order to make possible a start of the internal combustion engine (1) as reliable as possible without an electro-motoric starter, it is suggested that the inlet and/or outlet valves (5) of at least one cylinder (3), whose piston (2) is disposed after top dead center (TDC), is brought into a position corresponding to a work phase in advance of the starting operation.

摘要: A starter for an internal combustion engine is provided for improving the startability and reducing noise associated with starting. The starter for an internal combustion engine comprises an electric motor, an oil pump driven by the electric motor, an accumulator for accumulating an oil pressure pumped by the oil pump, a hydraulic actuator driven by the oil pressure accumulated in the accumulator, an oil pressure supply control valve for controlling the oil pressure supplied from the accumulator to the hydraulic actuator, a driven gear for rotation integral with a crank shaft of the internal combustion engine, a driving gear connected to the hydraulic actuator, and brought into mesh with the driven gear and driven by the hydraulic actuator when the internal combustion engine is started, an oil pressure sensor for detecting the oil pressure in the accumulator, and an ECU for controlling the electric motor based on the value of the oil pressure in the accumulator detected by the oil pressure sensor. The starter maintains the hydraulic actuator in a usable state irrespective of an operating condition of the engine to reduce a starting time, thereby making it possible to improve the startability and reduce the noise.
