摘要: An electron exit window foil for an electron beam emitter having an electron beam generator and operating in a corrosive environment. The electron exit window foil has a sandwich structure with an outer side arranged to face the corrosive environment and an inner side arranged to face the electron beam generator. The sandwich structure comprises, as seen from the outer side to the inner side, a protective layer, for protecting the sandwich structure from the corrosive environment, a supporting layer made of Ti, for providing structural support for the sandwich structure, and a thermally conductive layer made of Al, for conveying heat from the sandwich structure.

摘要: There is provided an exit window for an electron beam from a linear accelerator for use in producing radioisotopes. The exit window comprises a cylindrical channel operatively connectable at one end to a vacuum chamber configured for travel of the electron beam; and a domed dished head at the other end of the channel, the dished head comprising a convex portion having a protruding crown configured for pass-through of the electron beam wherein the geometry of the domed dished head is proportioned to resist pressure stress created by cooling medium circulating around the protruding crown and the vacuum in the cylindrical channel and to maintain the combined cooling medium pressure stress and pulsed electron beam thermal stress below the fatigue limit of the material forming the exit window.

摘要: An electron beam irradiation device includes an electron gun, a housing, and an electron beam emission window. A rod portion of the housing includes a first tubular member, a second tubular member, a cooling gas flow space, and a wall member. The window is provided at an end portion on a distal end side of the first tubular member. The second tubular member surrounds the first tubular member. The cooling gas flow space includes at least a cooling gas flow path provided between an outer wall surface of the first tubular member and an inner wall surface of the second tubular member. The wall member is provided so as to perform partition between an electron beam emission space and the cooling gas flow space. The wall member is provided with a cooling gas ejection hole. The hole has a flow path sectional area smaller than a flow path sectional area of the cooling gas flow path.

摘要: Methods and systems are described for processing cellulosic and lignocellulosic materials and useful intermediates and products, such as energy and fuels. For example, irradiating methods and systems are described to aid in the processing of the cellulosic and lignocellulosic materials. The electron beam accelerator has multiple windows foils and these foils are cooled with cooling gas. In one configuration a secondary foil is integral to the electron beam accelerator and in another configuration the secondary foil is part of the enclosure for the biomass conveying system.

摘要: Window tiles for electron beam systems are provided. The window tiles can comprise a first surface and a second surface, and one or more features extending from the first surface to the second surface. The one or more features can have a non-uniform or tapered cross-section between the first surface and the second surface. The first surface can be configured to be exposed to vacuum conditions and can be configured to receive electrons accelerated from an electron beam generator. The second surface can be configured to allow electrons to pass through to a foil. The window tiles can improve electron beam processing systems for example by increasing electron throughput, lowering power consumption, reducing heat absorption to the foil, improving and increasing foil life, and potentially allowing for use of smaller and cheaper machines in electron beam processing.

摘要: An apparatus, system and method of using electrons to perform at least one operation are disclosed. An apparatus may include groups of carbon nanotubes capable of emitting a relatively large number of electrons for use in performing operations such as sterilization, purification, deodorization, cleaning, cross-linking, pest control, pathogen control, chain-scissioning associated with surface modification, waste treatment, etc. Each group of carbon nanotubes may be aligned with a respective opening in a member, where the member may be coupled with a membrane capable of transmitting electrons. Electrons may be emitted from the carbon nanotubes by applying a vacuum to the carbon nanotubes and also applying an electric potential between the carbon nanotubes and the member. As such, electrons from a plurality of groups of carbon nanotubes may generate an electron flow that can be used to perform one or more operations on a fluid, object, or other type of component.
