Abstract:
The invention relates to a locking system for mechanical joining of floorboards (1, 1′) which have a body (30), a lower balancing layer (34) and an upper surface layer (32). A strip (6) is integrally formed with the body (30) of the floorboard (1) and extends under an adjoining floorboard (1′). The strip (6) has a locking element (8), which engages a looking groove (14) in the underside of the adjoining floorboard (1′) and forms a horizontal joint. A tongue (38) and a tongue groove (36) form a vertical joint between upper and lower plane-parallel contact surfaces (43, 45) and are designed in such manner that the lower contact surfaces (45) are on a level between the upper side of the locking element (8) and a plane containing the underside (3) of the floorboard. The invention also relates to a floorboard having such a locking system, a floor made of such floorboards, as well as a method for making such a locking system.
Abstract:
A method for forming the edge profile of a decorative laminate panel, wherein the decorative laminate panel includes a decorative surfacing layer, a backing layer and a substrate positioned between the decorative surfacing layer and the backing layer. The method is achieved by creating a recess defined by the decorative surfacing layer and the backing layer, forming an edge member shaped and dimensioned for placement within the recess, the edge member including an interlocking profile, and positioning the edge member within the recess with the interlocking profile exposed for selective attachment to adjacent laminate panels. The invention further relates to a laminate panel manufactured by the method described above. In addition, the invention relates to a connecting system for coupling adjacent panels. The connecting system employs a track locking strip in securely coupling the panels in accordance with the present invention.

Abstract:
A process for achieving a wear resistant translucent surface on surface elements (1) which comprises a decorative upper layer (2) and a supporting core (5). A number of layers of UV- or electron-beam curing lacquer are applied on a decorative surface, through a process comprising the steps; i) Applying a base layer of lacquer to a surface weight of 5-50 g/m2. ii) Applying hard particles with an average particle size in the range 10-150 &mgr;m which are sprinkled to an amount of 1-40 g/m2 on the still wet lacquer. iii) Curing the applied layer of lacquer to a desired viscosity. iv) Applying a covering layer of lacquer to a surface weight of 5-150 g/m2. v) Curing the applied layer of lacquer to a desired viscosity. vi) Applying a topcoat layer of lacquer with an additive of 5-35% of hard particles with an average size in the range 50 nm-30 &mgr;m to a surface weight of 2-20 g/m2. vii) Curing the applied layers of lacquer to a desired final viscosity.

Abstract:
A panel, particularly a floor-covering panel, is provided that has separate horizontal and vertical locking structures. The panel has a first side edge and a second side edge. The first side edge has a groove and a locking lip, and the second side edge has a tongue and a locking tongue. The first side edge of one panel interlocks with the second side edge of another panel without adhesives or fasteners such that the tongue and groove form a joint that provides a vertical interconnection lock and the locking lip and locking tongue form a joint that provides a horizontal interconnection lock. Advantageously, one or more first side edge surfaces opposite surfaces of the second edge locking tongue have a space between them. The separate horizontal and vertical locking structures reduces, if not prevents, damage to the locking structures during joining of panels.
Abstract:
A flooring member comprising a top, a bottom, a first edge, a second edge, a tongue member configured to be received within a groove member of an adjacent flooring member, the tongue member extending generally perpendicular from the first edge and having a top surface and a bottom surface, the tongue member top surface is inclined away from the flooring member top at a first angle, the tongue member bottom surface is inclined toward said flooring member top at a second angle, the second angle being less than the first angle so that a gap resistant interconnection of the tongue within a groove of an adjacent flooring member is achieved.
Abstract:
Floor covering, including hard floor panels which, at least at the edges of two opposite sides, are provided with coupling parts, cooperating which each other, substantially in the form of a tongue and a groove, wherein the coupling parts are provided with integrated mechanical locking elements which prevent the drifting apart of two coupled floor panels in a direction (R) perpendicular to the related edges and parallel to the underside of the coupled floor panels, and provide a snap-action coupling.
Abstract:
A deck including a panel, a retainer and a fastener. The panel includes a flange having an aperture therein. The retainer includes an upper leg and a lower leg embracing the flange therebetween, with the lower leg having a fastener receiving opening. The fastener is for attaching the panel to structural framework, with the fastener including a shoulder. The fastener extends through the aperture of the flange and the opening of the lower leg of the retainer. The shoulder extends through the aperture in the flange and abuts against the lower leg of the retainer to secure the retainer. Furthermore, the shoulder is sufficiently tall as to prevent the fastener from tightly clamping the flange. Additionally, the flange embraced between the upper leg and the lower leg of the retainer is adapted to expand between the upper leg and the lower leg. Therefore, thermal expansion of the panel is accommodated.
