Abstract: A user equipment (UE) implements improved communication methods which enable uplink (UL) transmissions consistent with an UL timeline. The UE may have a transmit duty cycle and may transmit acknowledge/negative acknowledge messages to a base station according to the transmit duty cycle. Additionally, the UE may be configured to determine signal-to-interference-plus noise ratio (SINR) between the UE and the base station and compare SINR to a threshold. The UE may transmit redundancy versions of data in consecutive sub-frames with a duty cycle of two transmissions per X+1 sub-frames if SINR is equal or above the threshold and redundancy versions using a duty cycle of one transmission per X sub-frames if SINR is below the threshold. Further, the UE may be configured to communicate a number of UL HARQ processes supported by the UE, receive first information in a first sub-frame, and send second information X sub-frames after the first sub-frame.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to a system and method for generating single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) transmissions using a high efficiency architecture. According to some embodiments, frequency resources allocated for a transmission may be determined. The allocated frequency resources may have a bandwidth less than a channel bandwidth of a frequency channel of the transmission, and may be centered around a particular frequency. The frequency may be offset from the center frequency of the channel. A baseband signal located around DC corresponding to the channel center frequency may be generated. The baseband signal may be up-converted to an RF signal using a local oscillator tuned to the frequency around which the allocated frequency resources are centered. The RF signal may be transmitted.

Abstract: The disclosure describes procedures for allocating network resources for a mobile device communicating within a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. The mobile device can be configured to decode a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), acquire first and second physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) decode indicators from a payload of the same PDSCH communication, decode a PDCCH for downlink control information (DCI) associated with a first application data type based on the first PDCCH decode indicator a second application data type based on the second PDCCH decode indicator. The first PDCCH decode indicator can identify an upcoming LTE subframe where the mobile device is required to decode the PDCCH for DCI associated VoLTE resource assignments and the second PDCCH decode indicator can identify an upcoming LTE subframe where the mobile device is required to decode the PDCCH for DCI associated with high bandwidth best effort (BE) data resource assignments.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for time division multiplexing of radio frequency channels in unlicensed radio frequency bands by a wireless device in communication with a cellular wireless network are disclosed. The wireless device obtains, from an eNodeB, a configuration for carrier aggregation using a primary component carrier (PCC) in a licensed radio frequency band and at least one secondary component carrier (SCC) in an unlicensed radio frequency band. The configuration information specifies an “on” time period and an “off” time period for a repetitive time division cycle to use the at least one SCC in the unlicensed radio frequency band. During an “on” time period, the wireless device can transmit or receive using the PCC and the at least one SCC, as scheduled by the eNodeB. During an “off” time period, the wireless device can transmit or receive using the PCC and not using the at least one SCC.

Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods to enhance radio link performance in a multi-carrier environment. A method may comprise sending, by an upper level layer of a wireless device, user data in a packet for transmission, wherein the packet includes an indication of a level of priority of the packet, receiving, by a media access control (“MAC”) layer of the wireless device, the packet for transmission including the indication of the level of priority provided by the upper level layer, identifying, by the MAC layer, a reliability of each of a plurality of component carriers, and selecting, by the MAC layer, one of the component carriers on which to transmit the packet, wherein the selecting is based on the level of priority of the packet and the reliability of the one of the component carriers.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to determining whether to bar a public land mobile network (PLMN). In some embodiments, a mobile device is configured to increment a count of failed requests to a PLMN for requests that are explicitly rejected by a base station and not for other requests. In some embodiments, the mobile device is configured to bar the PLMN in response to the count reaching a threshold value. In some embodiments, for requests that fail without explicit rejection, the mobile device is configured to wait a predetermined time interval before transmitting another request to the base station. The time interval may be telescoped for subsequent requests that fail without a rejection. In various embodiments, the disclosed techniques may reduce power consumption while avoiding premature PLMN barring.

Abstract: A device and method performs a handover. The method includes establishing a connection to a cellular network. The method includes determining whether a WiFi network is available for connection. The method includes determining performance data of the WiFi network based upon network metrics. The method includes determining a quality of service (QoS) parameter associated with a currently executed application, the QoS parameter being indicative of whether a handover from the cellular network to the WiFi network is permitted. The method includes performing the handover from the cellular network to the WiFi network when the performance data of the WiFi network satisfies a set of predetermined criteria for the network metrics and the QoS parameter indicates the handover is permitted.

Abstract: A link-budget-limited wireless communication device (UE) may implement improved radio link monitoring procedures for enhancing the link-budget of the UE. The UE may monitor the radio link and may determine whether the radio link can support a lowest acceptable link quality according to a hysteresis-based comparison that uses threshold values to determine error rates associated with a physical control channel. The UE may also identify itself to the network as a link-budget-limited device, and the network may enable special link-budget enhancing features for the UE, including boosting the power of the resource elements (REs) carrying physical channel signaling/data to the UE. The UE may detect the presence of power boost and may estimate/determine the power boost level. The UE may modify the threshold values based on the power boost detection and/or results of the power boost level estimation/determination, and may use the modified threshold values for determining radio link quality during radio link monitoring.

Abstract: Some embodiments relate to a user equipment (UE) configured to modify at least one signal strength threshold value to provide improved operation for link budget limited devices when performing cell selection or reselection. In some embodiments, the UE may receive a threshold value indicating a minimum received signal strength for camping on a cell. The UE may determine an offset value based on operating parameters of the UE, and may determine a modified threshold value by applying the offset value to the received threshold value. The UE may then compare the modified threshold value to a signal strength measurement of a signal received from a base station associated with the cell. The UE may camp on the cell if the modified threshold value is less than the signal strength measurement, and not camp on the cell if the modified threshold value is greater than the signal strength measurement.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to DC interference cancelation in received wireless signals. Disclosed techniques may be performed in the digital domain, in conjunction with analog cancelation techniques. In some embodiments, a receiver apparatus operates a local oscillator at a frequency corresponding to a particular pilot symbol in a received wireless signal. In some embodiments the receiver estimates DC interference at the frequency based on the received pilot symbol (this may be facilitated by the fact that the contents of pilot symbols are known, because they are typically used for channel estimation). In some embodiments, the receiver apparatus is configured to cancel the DC interference based on the estimate to determine received data in subsequently received signals at the frequency. Disclosed techniques may allow narrowband receivers to efficiently use more of their allocated frequency bandwidth, rather than wasting bandwidth near the frequency of the local oscillator.
