Abstract:
In an embodiment of the disclosure, mixtures of different carbon length alcohols are used as the primary feedstock for Guerbet alcohols. Specifically, embodiments relate to a method of synthesizing mixed molecular weight additives from a mixture of primary alcohols comprising, receiving a mixture of primary alcohols having greater than two different chain length primary alcohols and reacting the mixture of primary alcohols in a single reactor to produce a mixture of at least five Guerbet alcohols. The mixture of Guerbet alcohols can then be used to produce an additive or surfactant composition comprising additives or surfactants of different molecular weights.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to an improved hydrocracking catalyst containing an amorphous silica-alumina (ASA) base and alumina support. The ASA base is characterized as having a high nanopore volume and low particle density. The alumina support is characterized as having a high nanopore volume. Hydrocracking catalysts employing the combination high nanopore volume ASA base and alumina support exhibit improved hydrogen efficiency, and greater product yield and quality, as compared to hydrocracking catalysts containing conventional ASA base and alumina components.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to methods for harnessing flow-induced electrostatic energy in a tubular length and using this energy to power electrical devices (e.g., flowmeters, electrically-actuated valves, etc.). The present invention is also directed to corresponding systems through which such methods are implemented.
Abstract:
A method is described for seismic imaging of complex subsurface volumes using prismatic seismic energy. The method receives a seismic dataset and an earth model. The earth model is perturbed such that prismatic reflections will generate perturbed seismic amplitudes in a target area and seismic imaging is performed using the perturbed model. A second seismic image is generated using a second earth model; the second earth model may be the original earth model or a second perturbed model wherein the perturbation generates different seismic amplitudes in the target area. The two seismic images are differenced to generate a prismatic seismic image that can be used to identify geologic features that are poorly illuminated in conventional imaging. The method may be executed by a computer system.
Abstract:
A system is described herein for performing off shore field operations. The system includes a number of process measuring devices that measure real-time process data. The system can further include a wellhead stack positioned at a sea floor, where the wellhead stack performs managed pressure drilling (MPD) as part of the field operations. The system can also include a dynamic process module executing on a hardware processor and providing first real-time output during the MPD using the real-time process data, where the dynamic process module includes a first off-the-shelf software package communicably coupled to a first model. The system can further include a dynamic integration engine executing on a hardware processor and receiving a first real-time output from the first model of the dynamic process module.
Abstract:
We provide an apparatus for performing a hydrocarbon conversion or for handling of an output of the hydrocarbon conversion, comprising: a bare metal alloy, wherein the bare metal alloy comprises: from 15.1 to 49 wt % nickel, from 2.3 to 10 wt % molybdenum, from 0.00 to 2.95 wt % copper, from 5 to 25 wt % chromium, and from 20 to 59 wt % iron; wherein the bare metal alloy exhibits a corrosion rate less than 0.07 mm/year when performing the hydrocarbon conversion or handling the output of the hydrocarbon conversion; and wherein the hydrocarbon conversion is performed using an acidic ionic liquid. We also provide a process for using the apparatus.
Abstract:
Elemental mercury is removed from a gas by contacting it with a halogen dissolved in an organic solvent. The mercury accumulates in the organic solvent and can be removed by extraction with an aqueous solution with a complexing agent, by adsorption, and by combinations. The absorption process can also operate by use of a series of absorbers which have successively higher concentrations of halogen in the solution and which successively remove more the mercury from the gas. A portion of the solvent in the last absorber can be cascaded to the previous absorber in the series. In one embodiment, the process is carried out at a temperature of absorber at less than or equal to 28° C. above the higher of the water dew in point and the hydrocarbon dew point. The mercury waste from the process is produced as either an aqueous solution or a small volume of mercuric sulfide.

Abstract:
Disclosed are methods, systems and computer readable storage media which facilitate the design of cables and pipes, including umbilicals, flexible pipes, optical cables, power cables, composite pipes, bundled pipes and combinations thereof. In one aspect, a computer implemented method includes, in response to input from a user in a plug-in interface in a graphical user interface within a computer-assisted design program, in a processor, executing instructions for receiving design information from a computer-assisted design program as well as receiving loading and deformation information from a global analysis software package for a cable or pipe having multiple components. A model is created using the design, loading and deformation information. The model is readable by a cable or pipe analysis software package. Thus the user is not required to manually generate the model of the cable or pipe readable by the cable or pipe analysis software package to be input into the cable or pipe analysis software package.
