Abstract: Age differentiation of hydrocarbon samples may be achieved using a chemical fossil assemblage approach. For example, a method may comprise: determining a source facies for a hydrocarbon sample; inputting the source facies into a chemical fossil assemblage model; determining, using the chemical fossil assemblage model, one or more candidate chemical fossil assemblages and corresponding age biomarkers for the hydrocarbon sample based on the source facies; measuring a concentration or a related value of corresponding age biomarkers in the hydrocarbon sample to yield an age biomarker fingerprint; inputting the age biomarker fingerprint into a chemical fossil assemblage model; comparing the age biomarker fingerprint to the one or more candidate chemical fossil assemblages using the chemical fossil assemblage model; and estimating an age of the hydrocarbon sample based on the comparison.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for improving product yields and/or product quality during co-processing of fast pyrolysis oil in a fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) reaction environment. The systems and methods can allow for co-processing of an increased amount of fast pyrolysis oil while reducing or minimizing coke production for a feedstock including fast pyrolysis oil and a conventional FCC feed. The reducing or minimizing of coke production can be achieved in part by adding a low molecular weight, non-ionic surfactant to the mixture of fast pyrolysis oil and conventional FCC feed.

Abstract: The present techniques are directed to a multiphase separation system. The system includes a liquid-liquid separator configured to receive a separated liquid that is further separated into a separated oil and a separated water within the liquid-liquid separator. An oil pump and a water pump, both with adjustable speeds, are configured to pump the separated oil and the separated water, respectively, from the liquid-liquid separator. An interface level in the liquid-liquid separator is regulated by adjusting the speed of the oil pump and the speed of the water pump.

Abstract: Provided herein are methods of making a metal-organic framework comprising: combining a pre-ligand with a metal source to provide a plurality of solid reactants; adding a solvent to the plurality of solid reactants to form a reaction mixture, wherein at least 50 wt % of the reaction mixture are the plurality of solid reactants; heating the reaction mixture wherein the pre-ligand is converted to a ligand in the reaction mixture and the ligand reacts with the metal component; and cooling the reaction mixture to produce the metal-organic framework. The present methodologies are performed without dimethylformamide in the reaction mixture. The present methods may further comprise the step of adding a crystallization aid such as zinc oxide to the reaction mixture.

Abstract: Provided are metal-organic frameworks made by the process of comprising the steps of reacting a first metal source that can generate a tetravalent metal cation in solution, a linear dicarboxylic acid, a second metal source that can generate a divalent cation in solution, and one or more monocarboxylic acid modulators in a solvent to provide a reaction solution. The reaction solution is heated to provide a metal-organic framework having between about 0 wt. % to 10 wt. % of divalent cation, surface area between about 1100 m2/g and 2700 m2/g, a porosity of between about 0.45 cc/g and 1.1 cc/g, and a relative intensity equal to or greater than 0.35 and a peak width ratio of less than 3.0.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to processes for forming or otherwise creating a transparent, conductive film from a heavy hydrocarbon material. It allows for what is often considered to be waste material to be transformed into a useful product, such as a heating element. Such heating elements can be incorporated into many contexts where it can be important to have transparency and/or a thin heating element, such as in windshields. The process involves dissolving a heavy hydrocarbon material in a solvent, casting the heavy hydrocarbon solution that results from the dissolving onto a substrate to form a film, and then annealing the film. The disclosure also provides for objects in which such resulting films can be used, such as Joule heaters.

Abstract: Method and systems are provided for building a structural model of the subsurface. The method may comprise obtaining discretized data that includes surfaces, polylines, points, or combinations thereof. The surfaces in the discretized data are segmented by other surfaces to form a number of segments. Each of the segments are fit to an implicit function. The implicit function for each of the segments is thresholded to create a number of implicit surfaces. The implicit surfaces are intersected to create a number of model surfaces. The structural model is then constructed from the model surfaces.
