摘要: Incendivity test systems and methods are disclosed. Incendivity test systems include a non-flammable gas mixture and a test article in a test chamber. The non-flammable gas mixture includes a thermally reactive reagent that is formulated to thermally react to produce a reaction product. Incendivity test systems also include an energy source configured to apply an energy discharge such as a simulated lightning strike to the test article. Incendivity test systems also include a detection device configured to measure an indicator species in the non-flammable gas mixture (e.g., the thermally reactive reagent and/or the reaction product). Incendivity test methods include contacting the test article with the non-flammable gas mixture, applying the energy discharge to the test article, and then measuring the amount of the indicator species and determining the incendivity of the test article in response to the energy discharge based upon the amount of the indicator species.

摘要: A method of impeding formation of ice on an exterior surface of airfoil is disclosed. The method comprises detecting first ambient conditions known to cause the ice to form on exterior surface. The method also comprises supplying inductive heat and acoustic pressure to exterior surface when the first ambient conditions are detected. The method additionally comprises detecting second ambient conditions known to impede the ice from forming on exterior surface. The method further comprises discontinuing to supply the inductive heat and the acoustic pressure to exterior surface when the second ambient conditions are detected.

摘要: An airfoil comprises a skin, comprising an external surface and an internal surface. The skin has a controlled region. The airfoil also comprises an interior space, formed by the skin. The airfoil additionally comprises a hybrid acoustic induction-heating system, configured to impede formation of ice on the external surface. The hybrid acoustic induction-heating system comprises an induction coil and a control system. At least a portion of the induction coil is sufficiently close to the internal surface to produce an eddy current within the controlled region when an alternating electrical current is flowing in the induction coil. The control system is configured to generate inductive heat and acoustic pressure in the controlled region by supplying the alternating electrical current to the induction coil based, at least in part, on an ambient temperature of a layer of fluid flowing over the external surface.

摘要: An airfoil comprises a skin, comprising an external surface and an internal surface, opposite the external surface. The skin is magnetically and electrically conductive. The airfoil also comprises an interior space, formed by the skin. The internal surface faces the interior space. The airfoil additionally comprises a leading edge along the external surface. The airfoil further comprises a hybrid acoustic induction-heating system, configured to impede formation of ice on the external surface. The hybrid acoustic induction-heating system comprises an induction coil within the interior space. At least a portion of the induction coil is sufficiently close to the internal surface to produce an eddy current in the skin when an alternating electrical current is flowing in the induction coil. The hybrid acoustic induction-heating system also comprises at least one magnet within the interior space. At least the one magnet is configured to produce a steady-state magnetic field within the skin.

摘要: A controller for a temperature management system for heating and/or cooling a room in accordance with a schedule of set point temperatures over a control period as a data processor arrangement (10). A signal indicative of the current temperature of the room is received at a temperature input (9) for receiving a signal indicative of the current temperature in the room and a control output (18) for supplying control signals to the system. The controller has at least one electronic memory for storing said schedule of set point temperatures, a relationship, based on known heating or cooling characteristics of the room, between the energy supplied to the system in a portion of the control period and the predicted temperature of the room during that portion and subsequent portions of the control period. The electronic memory also stores a first parameter value representative of the cost of supplying said energy and a second parameter value representative of a predetermined acceptability of variations of the actual or predicted temperature of the room from the set point schedule, wherein the processor arrangement (10) is operable to calculate, for each said portion, the energy to be supplied to the system in order for a plurality of parameter values to satisfy a predetermined criterion, said plurality of parameter values comprising said first parameter value and said second parameter value.
