Abstract:
A polyolefin film which comprises a polypropylene base layer and at least one top layer of a propylene polymer, wherein the base layer is formed of an isotactic polypropylene and the top layer of a syndiotactic polypropylene, has high sealed-seam strength and excellent optical properties and is useful as, for example, a packaging material.
Abstract:
The biaxially oriented film based on a propylene polymer contains an inorganic particulate neutralizing agent, in particular a carbonate or magnesium oxide. To improve the slip properties, the particles have been given a hydrophobic coating, in particular a coating of wax, a fatty acid, a salt of a fatty acid or an ester of a fatty acid.
Abstract:
A five layer, biaxially-oriented polyolefin film, which is sealable on both exterior surfaces and includes a base layer of polypropylene which carries polyolefinic intermediate layers on both surfaces, and two sealing layers of sealable olefin polymers which are disposed, respectively, on the intermediate layers. The intermediate layers include 0.2-2.0% by weight of a polydialkylsiloxane having a viscosity of less than about 500 mm2/s. The film is particularly well-suited for the reception of aqueous printing inks or as a substrate for aqueous coating systems.
Abstract:
A biaxially stretch-oriented film, suitable for the process of transfer metallizing, which comprises a base layer coextruded with covering layers on either side thereof and comprising an inert admixture is disclosed. The three layers are formed of polyolefin and the base layer comprises an additive which migrates from the base layer into the covering layers. The base layer contains the inert admixture in the form of finely divided particles, which partially protrude from the base layer and are completely enveloped by the covering layers. At least one of the two outer surfaces of the covering layers displays, at least in partial areas, an increased roughness attributable to the particles protruding from the base layer.
Abstract:
A biaxially stretch-oriented multilayer film is disclosed which is produced by coextrusion and is suitable as a release sheet in the production of decorative laminate panels having a matte surface finish. The film comprises a base layer essentially comprising polypropylene and at least one top layer. The top layer essentially comprises(a) 98.5% to 99.6% by weight of a propylene homopolymer and(b) 0.4% to 1.5% by weight of a polydiorganosiloxane, relative to the weight of the top layer.
Abstract:
A transfer-metallization method in which a metal coating is applied to a top layer of a metallizing film, and the film is then brought into contact with a substrate such that the metal coating is transferred from the top layer to the substrate. The film is a three-layer biaxially-oriented transfer film produced by coextrusion and having a base layer of a polypropylene homopolymer and top layers applied to the two surfaces thereof. The base layer contains an additive depot of migrating monomers in an amount of 0.01 to 2.0 percent by weight, relative to the weight of the polymer constituting the base layer. The top layers are comprised of polypropylene that has a lower viscosity than the polypropylene of the base layer.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A process for the preparation of a biaxially stretch-oriented film having at least one opaque layer is described. The opaque layer is composed essentially of propylene polymer and fillers in a quantity of about 10 to 40% by weight, relative to the total weight of propylene polymer and fillers. In production, the granules are melted in a screw extruder, are forced through a die and are formed by cooling to give a preformed film. The preformed film is then stretch-oriented both along the machine direction and transversely perpendicular to the machine direction and is then heat-set. The fillers are added in the form of a masterbatch to the granules of unfilled polymers. The masterbatch should have a filler content of more than about 30% by weight.
Abstract:
A non-sealable polypropylene multi-layer film comprises a base layer and at least one covering layer, the base layer as wella as the covering layer or layers being formed of propylene homopolymers. The covering layers contain a combination of additives composed of (a) from 0.2 to 1.0% by weight of a long-chain aliphatic amine, (b) from 0.2 to 1.0% by weight of a polydialkylsiloxane, and (c) from 0.1 to 1.0% by weight of a platelet-shaped inorganic pigment, the platelets of the pigments being disposed substantially parallel to the surface of the covering layer. The film is preferably produced by a coextrusion process. It is preferably used as a laminating film, an interleaving film or a metallizable film. The novel non-sealable polypropylene multi-layer film has, in particular, good anti-blocking and slip properties, good optical properties, good antistatic properties, and a high scratch resistance. The film can be subjected to a corona treatment without thereby adversely influencing its properties.
