One motor part forms a multi-pole excitation field in an air gap by means of permanent magnets and the other motor part comprises a coil configuration situated in the air gap. The coil configuration is free of soft-magnetic material. The permanent-magnetically excited motor part includes a cylindrical yoke having substantially radial slots which are uniformly spaced about the circumference and in which the permanent magnets are mounted. The permanent magnets are magnetized in a circumferential direction with directions of magnetization which change from magnet to magnet. The cylindrical yoke is made of an isotropic permanent-magnet material which, in the yoke portions between the permanent magnets mounted in the slots, is predominantly radially magnetized in a manner such that the resulting magnetic field in the air gap has the same polarity as the magnetic field produced by the permanent magnets in the slots. The permanent magnets are made of an anisotropic permanent-magnet material.

The invention relates to a light application apparatus (1) for applying light to an object (3). A light source (4) generates processing light (2) and sensing light (5), which are coupled into the object (3). A light detector (8) detects the sensing light (5) after having left the object (3), and a control unit (9) controls the light source (4) such that processing light (2) in a processing time interval and sensing light (5) in a sensing time interval are alternately generated. Since processing light and sensing light are generated alternately, the generation of the processing light and of the sensing light is decoupled, i.e. the processing light can be optimized for processing purposes and the sensing light can be optimized for sensing purposes. This allows improving the quality of sensing the object and, thus, the quality of controlling the application of light depending on properties of the object.

The present invention relates to a device and method for controlling the color point of an LED light source (50). Color point control is a most interesting product feature both for white and colored LED light sources. In known methods for the color control of RGB LED light sources use is made of flux and color sensors. However, there are difficulties with respect to sensing quickly changing ambient light, deeply dimmed colors, coordinating the measurements with the switching of the LEDs, and controlling the color in LED light units comprising a number of independent LED lamps, e.g. segmented wall washers and LCD backlights. It is proposed according to the present invention to control the color of the LED light source (50), using a model-based feed forward approach. Factors relating the parameters controlling the LED currents to the brightness for the different colors (and segments) are stored and used for open loop control. A slow-running procedure continuously measures and updates these factors. Whilst the measurements are e.g. synchronized with the PWM, the procedure itself can run considerably slower and updates the factors asynchronously.

The present invention describes a high voltage transformer which is believed to have good temperature properties. This transformer may have a planar primary winding and a Litz secondary winding. The planar primary winding may abut against a planar face of the core (2) therefore allowing for a good heat exchange between these two elements. The Litz secondary winding and the planar primary winding may be cooled by means of a cooling medium.
