    摘要: The present invention provides a transmission-type, partial-transmission-type or a semi-transmission-reflection-type lateral electric field driving liquid crystal display device which can obtain the favorable transmissivity even when a circulatory polarized light is incident on a liquid crystal layer from a back surface side. In a liquid crystal display device which includes a first substrate which has a pixel electrode and a counter electrode, a second substrate which is arranged to face the first substrate in an opposed manner, a liquid crystal layer which is sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate, an upper polarizer which is arranged at a front surface side than the liquid crystal layer, and a lower polarizer which is arranged at a back surface side than the liquid crystal layer, the liquid crystal display device further includes a lower phase difference film which is arranged between the liquid crystal layer and the lower polarizer and converts a linearly polarized light to a circularly polarized light and an upper phase difference film which is arranged between the liquid crystal layer and the upper polarizer, the liquid crystal layer is driven by an electric field which is generated between the pixel electrode of the first substrate and the counter electrode of the first substrate, and a twist angle of the liquid crystal layer is within a range of 50° to 120° to perform a black display when a voltage is not applied.

    摘要: In a liquid crystal display device of the active matrix type using in-plane switching (IPS), with at least four transmission regions being formed within a single pixel area surrounded by neighboring gate wiring lines and neighboring drain wiring lines disposed in a direction transverse to the drain wiring lines, a multilayer structure formed of two layers of conductive films with an insulating film sandwiched therebetween is provided at a pixel electrode extending from either one of the neighboring gate wiring lines toward the interior of the pixel and causes one of these two-layer conductive films (i.e. lower pixel electrode placed on the substrate side) is configured to bend or “crank” into a hook-like shape at a central portion of the pixel areas while letting its planar shape be adjacent to one of the neighboring drain lines at the half of the pixel area and also letting it be adjacent to the other of the neighboring drain lines at the other half, thereby widening the viewing angle of an image to be visually displayed on the liquid crystal display device and also brightening the image.

    摘要: An active matrix type liquid crystal display device includes, in each pixel, a semiconductor layer of a thin film transistor, a first insulating film formed on the semiconductor layer, a gate line formed on the first insulating film, a second insulating film formed on the gate line, and a drain line formed on the second insulating film. The bottom side of the gate line is opposed to the semiconductor layer with the first insulating film interposed therebetween, and the top side of the gate line is covered with a metal electrode formed on the second insulating film by the same process as used to form the drain line, whereby leakage electric fields from the gate line are shielded. Particularly when an IPS type liquid crystal display device using low temperature poly silicon TFTs is constructed in the above-described manner, a wide viewing angle and a bright display image are obtained.

While rays of light coming from a backlight are irradiated from the side of one substrate of respective substrates disposed to oppose each other with a layer of liquid crystal material interposed therebetween, a certain region on a liquid crystal side surface of the one substrate which is surrounded by neighboring gate signal lines being disposed adjacent to each other and drain signal lines being disposed adjacent to each other is adapted for use as a pixel region, in which a pixel electrode is formed for receiving an image signal as supplied from one drain signal line via a thin-film transistor rendered operative by supplement of a scan signal from one gate signal line, wherein this pixel electrode is generally made up from a conductive reflection film and a transparent conductive film that are electrically connected together with a light reclamation or “reuse” film being formed beneath the conductive reflection film through the conductive reflection film and a dielectric film, this light reuse film being electrically insulated from either the gate signal lines or the drain signal lines.

    摘要: A plurality of cascaded unit register circuits which comprises a bidirectional shift register include main stages and dummy stages at the top before the main stages and dummy stages at the bottom after the main stages. A k-th stage outputs a pulse Pk in synchronization with a clock signal with a reference point N1 being at H level. The main stages include terminals NSF and NSB for setting N1 to H to which Pk−1 and Pk+1 are input, respectively, and terminals NRB and NRF for setting N1 to L level to which Pk−2 and Pk+2 are input, respectively. The order of generation of clock signals is reversed according to the direction of a shift, and whether a start trigger signal is applied to a top stage or a bottom stage is switched. Top dummy stages do not have NRB. Bottom dummy stages do not have NRF.
