The laminate is fan-folded into a stack such that substantially the entire surface area of the opposite polarity electrode segments are in contact with the electrolyte layer and in ion exchange with the electrode layer. Current can collected from the discrete opposite polarity electrode segments by opposite polarity electrode current collector strips that electrically connect the opposite polarity electrode segments. A method for making an electrochemical cell stack is also disclosed.

    摘要: A process is provided for producing a pressure-sensitive carbonless record sheet comprising the steps of preparing a hot melt coating composition, the hot melt coating composition being water insoluble and having a melting point of from about 60.degree. C. to about 140.degree. C. The hot melt coating composition includes a chromogenic material. The chromogenic material is a meltable color developer of the acidic electron accepting type. The hot melt coating composition is heated to a temperature above its melting point and the heated coating composition is applied to a substrate, the coating composition being applied at a coat weight of from about 0.2 pounds to about 8.0 pounds per 3300 square feet of substrate. The coating composition is set by cooling the coated substrate. A novel liquid chromogenic coating composition is produced, the coating composition having a melting point of from about 60.degree. C. to about 140.degree. C. and comprising from about 15% to about 100% of a chromogenic material and from about 0% to about 80% of a rheology modifying material, the chromogenic material being a meltable color developer of the acid electron accepting type. A pressure-sensitive record sheet is produced, the record sheet comprising a substrate having a plurality of surfaces, at least one of the surfaces being coated with a set hot melt coating composition, the set hot melt suspending medium including a chromogenic material dispersed therein.

    摘要: The invention relates to a process for producing a radiation curable coating composition containing microcapsules having a hydrophobic liquid core as follows: An emulsion containing droplets of hydrophobic emulsion component dispersed in a hydrophilic liquid component is prepared. The hydrophobic emulsion component comprises a hydrophobic liquid and a first wall-forming material soluble therein and capable of reacting by condensation polymerization with a second wall-forming material to form a polymeric capsule wall which is substantially insoluble in, and impermeable to, the hydrophilic and hydrophobic emulsion components. The hydrophilic emulsion component comprises an emulsifier and a radiation curable hydrophilic liquid which comprises water and at least one radiation curable polar compound. The emulsion also contains the second wall-forming material. The emulsion is subjected, with stirring, to temperature conditions for a period of time sufficient to react the first and second wall-forming materials to form a dispersion of microcapsules in the hydrophilic emulsion component. The radiation curable dispersion containing a photoinitiator can be coated on a paper substrate and set by subjection to a combination of ultraviolet and infrared radiation for a period of time sufficient to polymerize the radiation curable hydrophilic liquid to a tack-free resinous film on the paper substrate.

    摘要: In accordance with certain of its aspects, the novel process of this invention for making pressure-sensitive record sheets comprises the steps of forming a dispersion of microcapsules, the microcapsules being the product of microencapsulating a solution of a color precursor in an oil carrier; the walls of the microcapsules being substantially oil and water impermeable; forming an aqueous mixture containing a color developer for the encapsulated color precursor; adding a color suppressant to the dispersion of microcapsules, to the aqueous mixture or partially to both in an amount or amounts effective to substantially prevent color formation between the color developer and any unencapsulated color precursor; the color suppressant being a nitrogen containing basic organic compound selected from the group consisting of: amines, imines and aziridines; combining the aqueous mixture containing the color developer, the color suppressant and the microcapsules to form an aqueous coating composition; and applying the aqueous coating composition to a substrate in a single pass through substrate coating apparatus.In accordance with certain other aspects of this invention, the novel product of this invention is an aqueous slurry for coating pressure-sensitive record sheets, the novel slurry including a plurality of microcapsules, the microcapsules containing a solution of a color precursor in an oil carrier, the walls of the microcapsules comprising a reaction product of a wall forming compound and a cross-linking agent; a color developer for the color precursor; and a color suppressant comprising a nitrogen containing basic organic compound selected from the group consisting of: amines, imines and aziridines, the color suppressant being present in the aqueous slurry in an amount sufficient to substantially prevent color formation between the color developer and any unencapsulated color precursor.

    摘要: A pressure-sensitive carbonless transfer sheet comprising a paper substrate having a front and back surface and a coating composition adhered to at least one of the front and back surfaces of the paper substrate. The coating composition is set to a flexible, tack-free coat, and the coating composition includes a solvent free non-aqueous hot melt suspending medium which is characterized by being substantially water insoluble, being characterized by the presence of one or more functional groups selected from the group consisting of: carboxyl, carbonyl, hydroxyl, ester, amide, amine, heterocyclic groups and combinations thereof to impart polarity thereto and having a melting point of from about 60.degree. C. to about 140.degree. C. and a melting point range of less than about 15.degree. C. In addition the coating composition includes an encapsulated, chromogenic material which is substantially dispersed therein, the hot melt suspending medium being compatible with the color forming characteristics of the capsular chromogenic material. This invention further includes a liquid chromogenic coating composition which comprises a hot melt suspending medium in combination with a microencapsulated chromogenic material. The chromogenic material is a color precursor of the electron donating type which is mixed with a carrier oil to form an oil solution of the chromogenic color precursor material which is then combined with one or more wall forming compounds.

A microencapsulated chromogenic material is prepared and dispersed in the hot melt suspending medium, the chromogenic material being a color precursor of the electron donating type. A coating dispersion is prepared by combining the hot melt suspending medium with the microencapsulated chromogenic color precursor material, the hot melt suspending medium being compatible with the color forming or developing characteristics of the chromogenic material. The coating dispersion is then applied to a substrate, the coating dispersion being applied at a coat weight of from about 1.0 pound to about 8.0 pounds per 3300 square feet of substrate at a coat thickness of from about 1 micron to about 50 microns. The coated substrate is set by cooling the coating dispersion.
