An improved decision feedback equalization technique is provided that may be used in data communications receivers such as those in WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) systems. The decision feedback equalizer comprises a feedforward filter that is connected to receive an input data signal and output a filter representation thereof. The feedforward filter has a filter characteristic that depends on filter coefficient data. The decision feedback equalizer further comprises a filter coefficient computation unit for generating the filter coefficient data and outputting the generated data to the feedforward filter. At least one data processing circuit is provided that receives a mode switch signal for switching its operational mode. The data processing circuit is arranged for performing a feedforward filter function in one operational mode and a filter coefficient computation function in another operational mode.

An electromechanical transmission is provided having only a single motor/generator, at least one differential gear set and two torque-transmitting mechanisms. A first of the torque-transmitting mechanisms is selectively engageable to establish a first continuously variable operating mode and a second of the torque-transmitting mechanisms selectively engageable to establish a second continuously variable operating mode and a synchronous shift between the two operating modes is achievable. A method of control is provided in which vehicle operating characteristics are analyzed to identify a target operating state in terms of operating mode and ratio based on the available motor torque and motor power and on maximizing energy efficiency. The transmission is controlled to approach this operating mode as closely as possible and the diverge away from the optimum torque operating with zero net battery use as the battery charge of the battery connected with the motor/generator accumulates or depletes.

The invention relates to a process for sealing plasma-damaged, porous low-k materials on Si substrates, in which self-aligning molecules (SAMs) are applied to the low-k material, and then a diffusion barrier is applied to the low-k material. The invention is based on the object of providing a process for sealing plasma-damaged, porous low-k materials on Si substrates, which allows an improved distribution of the SAMs to be achieved, in particular in the case of structures with a high aspect ratio, and which allows the low-k materials to be repaired, dewatered and sealed. According to the invention, this is achieved by virtue of the fact that the deposition of the SAMs is carried out using a supercritical CO2 process (scCO2 process), by the wafers being introduced into a process chamber, that CO2 and SAMs are introduced into the process chamber and the process chamber is pressurized, that the wafers are heated to a temperature of over 35° C. up to 300° C., and that the ambient conditions in the process chamber are maintained for a predetermined period of time.

A multi-layer gate stack structure of a field-effect transistor device is fabricated by providing a gate electrode layer stack with a polysilicon layer, a transition metal interface layer, a nitride barrier layer and then a metal layer on a gate dielectric, wherein the transition metal is titanium, tantalum or cobalt. Patterning the gate electrode layer stack comprises a step of patterning the metal layer and the barrier layer with an etch stop on the surface of the interface layer. Exposed portions of the interface layer are removed and the remaining portions are pulled back from the sidewalls of the gate stack structure leaving divots extending along the sidewalls of the gate stack structure between the barrier layer and the polysilicon layer. A nitride liner encapsulating the metal layer, the barrier layer and the interface layer fills the divots left by the pulled-back interface layer. The nitride liner is opened before the polysilicon layer is patterned. As the requirement for an overetch into the polysilicon layer during the etch of the metal layer, the barrier layer and the interface layer is omitted, the height of the polysilicon layer can be reduced. The aspect ration of the gate stack structure is improved, the feasibility of pattern and fill processes enhanced and the range of an angle under which implants can be performed is extended.
