Abstract: A plurality of instances of pre-intersection and post-intersection probe data are received. Each instance of pre-intersection probe data corresponds to traveling along a pre-intersection road segment before traveling through an intersection. Each instance of post-intersection probe data corresponds to traveling along a post-intersection road segment following traveling through the intersection. Instances of pre-intersection probe data are clustered into pre-intersection clusters based on a post-intersection road segment identified by the corresponding instance of post-intersection probe data. Instances of post-intersection probe data are clustered into post-intersection clusters based on the post-intersection road segment identified thereby. A traffic level indicator is determined for each cluster. A traffic level indicator difference is determined for each pair of corresponding pre-intersection and post-intersection clusters. Responsive to determining that at least one traffic level indicator difference is greater than a threshold traffic level indicator difference, the intersection is identified as experiencing a traffic jam.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to improve the identification and characterization of split lane traffic and other multi-modality traffic conditions. In the context of a method, multimedia data from a camera is received that is representative of traffic conditions along a road segment upstream of a junction. The method identifies a multi-modality condition along the road segment upstream of the junction based upon an analysis of the multimedia data. The method also includes evaluating a plurality of probe points representative of travel along the road segment upstream of the junction in accordance with a detection algorithm to separately determine whether the multi-modality condition exists along the road segment upstream of the junction. The method further includes determining whether to modify one or more tuning parameters of the detection algorithm based upon the multi-modality condition identified based upon the analysis of the multimedia data.

Abstract: A method and system includes identification of road segments with multi-modal traffic patterns. A server receives speed data for a link. The server calculates a quantity of speed clusters from the speed data. The server calculates speed profiles for the quantity of speed clusters. The server identifies one or more modes of transportation for the link based on the quantity of the speed clusters and the speed profiles for the quantity of speed clusters.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatuses are described for estimating traffic conditions on road segments when no real time traffic data is available. A computing device may access a road topology comprising links from a geographic database. One of the links is selected from road topology. The computing device identifies a subset of the road topology having neighboring links that have an influential conditional probability on the selected link. In one example, the subset of the neighboring links includes parent links for the selected link, child links for the selected link, and parents of child links of the selected link. The computing device generates a traffic estimation model for the selected link using the subset of road topology and historical traffic data for the neighboring links.

Abstract: System and methods are provided for calculating a lane maneuver delay for different lane maneuvers and different road segments at different times of the day to generate a predicted lane maneuver delay for use in routing and navigation services. A lane-level map-matcher identifies the lane a vehicle is driving on using positional sensors. Sensor data is obtained from vehicle sensors using the left-turn and right-turn signal lights sensor. A lane maneuver delay value is calculated from the time period a left-turn or right-turn signaling light was kept on before a vehicle completed a lane maneuver. The lane maneuver delay values are aggregated to generate a predicted lane maneuver delay that may be used in lane level routing instructions.
