A beer filtering device of a filter press type for filtering a beer stock. The beer filter device includes a plurality of filter plates (4) and a plurality of filter frames (6) arranged side by side in alternate relationship to each other. A filter element (28) is supported to each filter plate (4). A stock line (66) for supplying a beer stock and a filtrate line (68) for discharging a filtrate of the beer stock are so formed as to penetrate through the filter plates and the filter frames in the thickness direction thereof. The stock line and the filtrate line are sealed by a plurality of stock line seals (48) and a plurality of filtrate line seals (74), respectively, each interposed between the filter plate and the filter frame adjacent to each other in a filtering step. A plurality of washer liquid seals (76) are provided outside the stock line seals and the filtrate line seals in such a manner that each washer liquid seal is interposed between the filter plate and the filter frame adjacent to each other. In a washing step, a space defined by the filter plates and the filter frames is sealed by the washer liquid seals under the condition where the sealed condition of the stock line and the filtrate line by the stock line seals and the filtrate line seals is released. In this condition, a washer liquid is circulated in the sealed space defined by the washer liquid seals to thereby extensively wash and sterilize the interior of the beer filtering device.

A callus and suspension culture cells containing taxol as an effective component, and a process for producing taxol therefrom, are provided. The callus and suspension culture cells containing taxol in a high content can be induced and proliferated by culturing a tissue of a plant belonging to the genus Taxus, particularly its female gametophyte. The process for cell culture is advantageously carried out in the presence of a particular combination of plant growth regulators known per se in a growth medium. A callus or suspension culture cells containing at least taxol as an effective component can be stably provided, making it possible to effectively produce taxol.

A proteinaceous substance having the following biochemical characteristics:(A) a strong cytolytic activity against mouse tumor cells L-929, but not cytotoxic activity for normal cells such as human fetus fibroblasts, human adult skin fibroblasts and chinese hamster fibroblasts (Don, V-79) and therefore a high tumor specificity: and(B) a strong anti-tumor and immunogenic activity against Meth-A sarcoma. When said substance is injected intravenously to the syngenic BALB/C mice inoculated with Meth-A sarcoma at a quantity of more than 72 units head, not only hemorrhagic necrosis, but also complete degradation is observed. Thereafter, even if it is attempted again to transplant the Meth-A sarcoma cells under the skin of Mice cured completely, successful plantation is not observed because of an acquired immunity:(C) the substance has no pyrogenetic action after intravenous injection to rabbits:(D) a molecular weight of 45,000.+-.5,000 (determined by the gel filtration method with Sephacryl S-200): and(E) an isoelectric point pI of 4.8+0.3: and a method for its manufacture.

A device for fastening a belt or the like, which comprises a first and a second component member. The first component member comprises a base plate, a pair of upstanding side walls and a cross rod having its opposite ends connected to the top ends of the side walls so that the base plate, the side walls and the cross rod form a frame defining a passage through which the belt or the like is to be passed. A bearing recess is formed in the inner surface of each of the side walls. The second component member comprises a body portion and a fastening portion extending angularly from one end of the body portion. The body portion is provided at the one end with a pair of pintles axially aligned and laterally outwardly projecting in opposite directions from the opposite lateral sides of the body portion and in the upper surface thereof with a bearing groove extending adjacent the one end of the body portion and in parallel with the common axis of the aligned pintles. The body portion is further provided at the opposite end with a slot for the belt to be attached to the second component member. The first and second component members are assembled with each of the pintles being engaged in one of the bearing recesses and the cross rod being engaged in the bearing groove so that the second component member is pivotable about the cross rod of the first component member.
