A method and apparatus for simultaneously communicating on at least two carrier frequencies, of which at least one carrier frequency is a licensed band and at least one carrier frequency is an unlicensed band, includes broadcasting an operating status of the unlicensed band to a receiver device, collecting feedback data regarding channel conditions from the receiver device for both the licensed band and unlicensed band, determining, when a bandwidth request is received from the receiver device, whether to use the unlicensed band based on the channel conditions, transmitting an unlicensed band scheduling indication to the receiver device, and communicating with the receiver device using both the licensed band and the unlicensed band according to the transmitted unlicensed band scheduling indication.

Provided is a method for managing a security key for communication authentication with a Mobile Station (MS) in a communication system. The method includes acquiring a first authentication key by performing an authentication procedure for the communication authentication in a cloud cell having member Base Stations (BSs) that include a master BS and at least one slave BS for providing a service to the MS; and communicating with at least one member BS using a first encryption key that is generated using the first authentication key.

Beam selection is provided. A method for handover in a mobile station includes sending a scan request message for scanning a downlink (DL) beam with respect to a serving base station (BS) and a neighboring BS, to the serving BS, and receiving a scan response message; determining the DL beam for the MS by performing scanning with the serving BS and the neighboring BS based on the scan response message; sending a scan report message comprising a result of the scanning to the serving BS; when receiving an air-HO request message from the serving BS, generating an air-HO response message comprising information of a neighboring BS to which the MS hands over based on the air-HO request message; performing beam selection with the neighboring BS of the handover based on the air-HO request message; and performing the handover.

A method for performing communication by a cellular base station in a wireless communication system is provided. The method includes performing channel contention for occupying a channel of an unlicensed band, if the channel of the unlicensed band is occupied, the cellular base station transmits a first message including information about a time period in which the channel of the unlicensed band is usable, to at least one first User Equipment (UE) that performs communication in the channel of the unlicensed band using a first communication scheme, and communicating with a second UE using a second communication scheme different from the first communication scheme in the channel of the unlicensed band during a time period corresponding to the time period information. The second communication scheme corresponds to a cellular communication scheme, and the first message is transmitted to the at least one first UE based on the first communication scheme.

An apparatus for an idle mode terminal is configured to perform a method for operating the idle mode terminal in a Machine to Machine (M2M) communication system. A paging message is received from the base station during a paging listening interval. The Apparatus determines whether an indicator indicating receipt of multicast group data is included in the paging message. When the indicator indicating the receiving of multicast group data is included, data transmitted via a downlink resource that uses an identifier mask of a multicast group to which a terminal belongs is received. Thereafter, a paging non-listening interval is entered.

Methods and apparatuses for coding a codeword. An apparatus for decoding the codeword includes a memory configured to receive the codeword encoded based on a low-density parity check (LDPC) code H-matrix and a two-step lifting matrix and processing circuitry configured to decode the received codeword. An apparatus for encoding the codeword includes memory configured to store information bits to be encoded into the codeword and processing circuitry configured to encode the codeword based on based on a LDPC code H-matrix and a two-step lifting matrix. A code length of the LDPC code H-matrix lifted by the two-step lifting matrix is an integer multiple of 672 bits. The LDPC code block H-matrix may be an IEEE 802.11ad standard LDPC coding matrix. The two-step lifting matrix can be one of a plurality of two-step lifting matrices to generate a family of LDPC codes.

A Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest (HARQ) method and an apparatus in a communication system are provided. The method includes receiving, by a Subscriber Station (SS), first data from at least one first member Base Station (BS) among member BSs of a cooperative cell, when the cooperative cell is configured with the member BSs to provide a communication service to the SS, generating a response signal indicating a reception result of the first data, and transmitting the response signal to at least one predefined second member BS from among the member BSs. The member BSs include a master BS for controlling communication of the member BSs and at least one slave BS for communicating with the SS under the control of the master BS.

Methods and apparatuses for scheduling and indicating scheduling information in a wireless local area network (WLAN). A station (STA) includes a transceiver configured to receive a header for a protocol data unit and a controller configured to identify common information for a plurality of STAs that are scheduled in the WLAN from a common field in the header and to identify user-specific information for the STA from a user-specific field in the header that follows the common field. An access point (AP) includes a controller configured to include common information for a plurality STAs that are scheduled in the WLAN in a common field in a header of a protocol data unit, and to include user-specific information for the STAs in a user-specific field in the header that follows the common field. The AP also includes a transceiver configured to transmit the protocol data unit including the header.

An apparatus and a method for controlling a beamforming gain in a wireless communication system are provided. The method includes determining whether to control a beamforming gain, controlling the beamforming gain via change of a beam width if it is determined to control the beamforming gain, and transmitting or receiving a signal according to the controlled beamforming gain.
