Abstract:
A method of operating a terminal device in a wireless telecommunications network comprising the terminal device and a plurality of base stations arranged into groups of one or more base stations supporting communications over different areas. The method including establishing a radio resource control (RRC) connection with an initially selected base station and entering an RRC connected mode of operation with respect to the initially selected base station and suspending the RRC connection with the initially selected base station and entering an RRC suspended mode of operation. The method includes subsequently transmitting a message to request a resumed RRC connection to a subsequently selected base station, wherein the subsequently selected base station is selected in accordance with a cell (re)selection procedure for the terminal device performed while in the RRC suspended mode of operation.

Abstract:
A communications device and method of communicating using a communications device via a wireless access interface. The method includes transmitting signals representing data in accordance with a device-to-device communication protocol via a shared communication channel of the wireless access interface. The transmitting the signals includes: selecting an identifier which identifies a party and identifies a discovery communication type; transmitting a scheduling assignment message in an scheduling assignment portion of the shared communications channel, wherein the scheduling assignment message includes the selected identifier for discovery by one or more other communications devices; and transmitting the signals representing the data in a data portion of the shared communications channel in accordance with the scheduling assignment message. The method can facilitate use of discovery in device-to-device environments.
Abstract:
A method of operating a terminal device in a wireless telecommunications system that supports a connected mode of operation in which terminal devices receive a type user-plane data from the network infrastructure equipment using primary and/or secondary component carriers operating on different frequency bands and an idle mode of operation in which terminal devices do not receive that type of user-plane data from the network infrastructure equipment. The method includes: establishing a measurement configuration making measurements of radio channel conditions for radio resources within the second frequency band; making measurement of radio channel conditions for radio resources within the second frequency band in accordance with the measurement configuration while the terminal device is operating in the idle mode; determining if the measurement of radio channel conditions meets a trigger criterion, and if so, transmitting a measurement report to the network infrastructure equipment to indicate the trigger criterion has been met.
Abstract:
A network infrastructure equipment establishes a configuration of radio resources within a second frequency band for use by a terminal device for communications with network infrastructure equipment based on a first radio access technology and communicates an indication of that to the terminal device. The terminal device establishes a configuration of radio resources for use by the terminal device for communications based on a second radio access technology and determines if there is any overlap in radio resources configured for use by two different radio access technologies, and if so communicates an indication of that to the network infrastructure equipment. In response the network infrastructure equipment establishes a replacement configuration of radio resources for communications with the terminal device based on the first radio access technology that avoids the radio resources indicated as subject to overlap, and transmits an indication of the replacement configuration to the terminal device.
Abstract:
A wireless telecommunications system in which downlink communications are made using a radio interface that spans a system frequency bandwidth (host carrier) and supports at least some communications from a base station to least some terminal devices within a plurality of restricted frequency bands (virtual carriers) which are narrower than and within the system frequency bandwidth. A terminal device conveys an indication of its identity, to the base station during an initial connection procedure as the terminal device seeks to access the radio interface. The terminal device and the base station both determine a selected restricted frequency band from among the plurality of restricted frequency bands based on the identity of the terminal device in the same way. Thus the terminal device and base station select the same restricted frequency band and can accordingly configure their respective transceivers to allow downlink communications between them within the selected restricted frequency band.

Abstract:
A method of operating a terminal device and network infrastructure equipment in a wireless telecommunications system for communicating on a primary cell supporting a primary component carrier on radio resources within a first frequency band and a secondary cell supporting a secondary component carrier on radio resources within a second frequency band. The infrastructure equipment establishes plural configuration settings for the secondary carrier based on measurements of radio usage in the second frequency band which are conveyed to the terminal device. The terminal device makes channel quality measurements for the secondary component carrier according to the different configuration settings and reports these to the infrastructure equipment. Based on these measurements of channel quality for the different configurations, the infrastructure equipment selects one of the configuration settings, and conveys an indication of this to the terminal device in association with an allocation of transmission resources on the secondary component carrier.
