The present invention provides methods and apparatus for the formation of a thin noble metal film which can achieve a high rate of film growth, can use inexpensive raw materials, and do not allow any impurities to remain in the thin film. Specifically, the present invention relates to a method for the formation of a thin metal film which comprises the steps of feeding a chlorine-containing raw material gas 55 into an inlet vessel 11 having a perforated plate 12 made of Cu; converting the raw material gas 55 into a plasma; etching the perforated plate 12 with the raw material gas plasma to produce a precursor 13 composed of the Cu component contained in the perforated plate 12 and the chlorine contained in the raw material gas 55; converting hydrogen gas into a plasma; after discharging the precursor 13 from the inlet vessel 11, passing the precursor 13 through a rotating magnetic field so as to cause the precursor 13 to travel toward a substrate 15 in an accelerated manner; and passing the precursor 13 through the reducing gas plasma to remove chlorine from the precursor 13 and directing the resulting Cu ions onto the substrate 15 to form a thin Cu film 62 on the substrate 15, as well as an apparatus for carrying out this method.

A video tape recording/reproducing apparatus for reproducing video signals recorded in successive parallel tracks on a magnetic tape includes a magnetic head for scanning the tracks to reproduce the signals recorded therein; a bi-morph leaf for deflecting the head in a direction transverse to the direction along the tracks; a controllable oscillator for supplying a wobbling signal to the bi-morph leaf so as to cause the latter to deflect the head to oscillate in a transverse direction with respect to the tracks, whereby the signals reproduced by the head are amplitude modulated at the frequency of the wobbling signal; a tracking error detecting loop for supplying a tracking error signal, corresponding to deviation of the head from the respective track being scanned, to the bi-morph leaf so as to control the latter to correct the deviation; and a signal detecting loop for detecting the fundamental and second harmonic components of the amplitude modulated signals reproduced by the head and for controlling the amplitude of the wobbling signal from the controllable oscillator in response to a ratio of the levels of the second and fundamental harmonic components so as to reduce the amplitude of the wobbling signal for small tracking errors and to increase the amplitude of the wobbling signal for large tracking errors.

Color video signal recording and/or reproducing apparatus comprising a first circuit for generating a first signal having the same frequency as the field frequency of the color video signal, and a second circuit for generating a second signal that indicates a field interval having a predetermined phase relationship between a horizontal synchronizing signal and a color subcarrier signal. The first and second signals are combined to form a composite control signal, which is then recorded in a control track on a magnetic tape in the conventional manner. A comparison circuit is included for comparing the composite control signal reproduced from the tape with a reference control signal, the reference control signal being composed of a third signal having a frequency equal to the field frequency and a fourth signal indicating a field interval, in which a phase relationship between a reference horizontal synchronizing signal and a reference color subcarrier signal is equal to the predetermined phase relationship. Thus, during playback the movement of the magnetic tape is controlled in response to the output of the comparison circuit so that the phase of the composite control signal reproduced from the tape coincides with that of the reference control signal.
