    摘要: An anterior spinal fixation system comprises a plurality of mounting constructs to hold one or more spinal rods or spinal plate-type braces. Each mounting construct includes a bottom plate and a top plate assembly. The bottom plate is attached to the vertebral body with a plurality of anchors, one or more of which may be polyaxial. In one embodiment, the top plate assembly engages the bottom plate through a quick-connect feature that provides simple and secure locking as well as tactile feedback. When the top plate assembly is engaged with the bottom plate, it compresses the rods or braces against the head of the screws, locking the angle of any polyaxial bone screws. In another embodiment, the top plate assembly threadably engages the bottom plate. For additional strength and rigidity, cross-connectors may be used between each pair of mounting constructs when two or more spinal rods are used.

    摘要: A biopsy device suitable for collection of a tissue sample from a biopsy site in a body lumen is provided. The biopsy device comprises a combination of an introducer assembly, a cutter assembly, and an endoscope assembly that coact with one another. The introducer assembly includes a hollow sheath having a distal end portion defining an aperture suitable for receiving a tissue mass therein. The cutter assembly includes a cutter tube having a distal end portion with a cutting edge. The cutter tube is sized to fit axially within the introducer sheath. The endoscope assembly includes a bundle of optical fibers sized to fit axially within the cutter tube. In use, the fiber optic bundle of the endoscope is nested within the cutter tube, which in turn is nested within the introducer sheath to form a co-axial structure.

    摘要: An adjustable spinal implant (10) is provided for use in connecting elongate members (12) as well as vertebral spacers such as corpectomy devices, intervertebral fusion devices, and other prostheses. The implant (10) may have fittings (80) on either end comprising fixed (100) or articulating (200) jaws, endplates, or other engagement structures. The implant (10) comprises a housing (40) with an internal rotor (60); an extending shaft (20); and a locking collar (70). The extending shaft (20) has an external helical groove (23) that meshes with an internal helical groove (63) on rotor (20). Length adjustment occurs by transforming axial movement of the extending shaft (20) into a rotary movement of the rotor (60) via helical engagement. The locking collar (70) comprises protrusion (73) engaging grooves (63) of rotor (60), thus providing a simple, positive locking mechanism without requiring the surgeon to apply excessive force to lock the length.
