    摘要: The invention provides an image processing apparatus and an image processing method and can be applied to an image information apparatus such as, for example, a television receiver, a video tape recorder, a television camera and a printer so that the gradation can be corrected while effectively preventing a finally obtained image from partial deterioration of the contrast. An area to which each of image data belongs is discriminated with reference to, for example, a low frequency component of a pixel value, and a correction coefficient is produced for the area. Such correction coefficients are smoothed between successive frames, and the pixel values of the image data are corrected with the smoothed correction coefficients.

    摘要: An data processing apparatus for performing signal processing on an input signal having a finite length. The apparatus performs a wavelet transform to divide the input signal into sub-bands for signal processing. An extrapolation process is performed to limit transform artifacts at the leading and trailing ends of each sub-band of the finite length signal. An extrapolation processing discriminator is used to determine whether the extrapolation process satisfies a complete reconstruction condition, whereby an output signal will be a substantial reconstruction of the input signal. The extrapolation process is chosen from among four different loopback methods.

A parallax synthesis unit synthesizes the parallax map and the pseudo-parallax map to generate a corrected parallax map based on the reliability map. The present technology is applicable to an image processing apparatus.

    摘要: Disparity in a stereoscopic image is converted, according to features of a configuration element of an image that influences depth perception of a stereoscopic image. A disparity detecting unit 110 detects disparity from a left image L and right image R of an input image, and generates a disparity map dM. A disparity correction unit 150 corrects the disparity in the disparity map dM and generates a corrected disparity map dM′. A correction feature setting unit 130 sets the correction features in the event of performing disparity correction in the disparity correction unit 150. The image synthesizing unit 160 synthesizes the left image L and right image R of the stereoscopic image based on the corrected disparity map dM′ and outputs the stereoscopic image made up of a left image L′ and right image R′ as an output image. Thus, a stereoscopic image having disparity according to the set correction features is output. The correction features therein are set according to the degree that the configuration element features such as size of disparity, position on screen, manner of special change and so forth influence the depth perception.

    摘要: The invention provides an image processing apparatus and an image processing method. An area to which image data belongs is discriminated, and a correction coefficient to be used for correction of a pixel value of the image data is produced based on a result of the discrimination. Then, the pixel value of the image data is corrected with the correction coefficient. The relationship in magnitude among pixel values in the same area is maintained because the same coefficient is used, but pixel values which belong to different areas can be varied or even reversed. This allows the gradation of an entire image to be corrected while preventing partial deterioration of the contrast.

    摘要: A sub-band encoding method for splitting the frequency spectrum of an input signal into plural bands, encoding the signals of the respective bands and transmitting the encoded signal, is disclosed. The encoding method includes a first step of splitting the input signal into a signal of a high frequency band and a signal of a low frequency band using a first-stage low-pass filter and a first-stage high-pass filter, a second step of downsampling signals of respective frequency bands obtained by the first step, a third step of splitting the frequency spectrum of the low frequency band signal downsampled by the second step, using recursively a pre-set low-pass filter and a high-pass filter, for generating signals of a plurality of frequency bands, and a fourth step of encoding the signals of respective frequency bands obtained by the second step and the third step. The number of taps of the second-stage low-pass filter and the second-stage high-pass filter used in the third step is set so as to be smaller than the number of taps of the first-stage low-pass filter and the first-stage low-pass filter. In the case of splitting the frequency spectrum of a two-dimensional picture signal, the method may include high pass and low pass filtering at each stage in both horizontal and vertical directions, and the relationship involving the number of taps at each stage may be similar.
