    摘要: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for vertically scaling a video picture comprising receiving and storing lines of a video frame of a video picture, reading lines of the frame into linestores, applying the lines to a vertical filter and providing an output video line as a function of the lines. Reading the lines of the frame into linestores comprises reading M lines of each successive 2nd line of the frame lines into the linestores. Following generation of the output video line, a further X lines are read from the framestore into the linestores to provide a further set of M lines in the linestores. The M lines are applied to the vertical filter to provide a further output video line as a function of the lines.

    摘要: A video disk recorder is such an apparatus as to compresses a video signal contained in a television signal at a predetermined compression rate to record it on an optical disk, and then play back the recorded signal. In such a video disk recorder, the television signal being input into a signal inputting portion is then compressed by a variable-rate encoder, and then sent out to a recording/playing portion. The signal sent out to the recording/playing portion is then recorded on an optical disk. In particular, the video disk recorder has a probability calculating portion for weighting signals according to degree of importance of the contents of the television signals, and a controlling portion for varying the compression rate in compliance with the weight.

    摘要: An object-oriented filter for filtering video images prior to video encoding is disclosed. The object-oriented filter is configured to include an image parameter extractor, a filter selector, and a filter. The image parameter extractor analyzes the input video sequences to map the location of pixels associated with one or more image parameters. Once the pixels associated with the image parameters are mapped, the filter selector ranks the identified image parameters based on their overall importance to the video sequence, and then selects a filtering factor for adjusting the strength of the filter used to filter the pixels associated with such identified image parameters. Thereafter, the pixels associated with each of the image parameters are filtered using the filter strength selected by the filter selector. An edge detector, skin detector, eyes-nose-mouth (ENM) region detector, and a moving region detector are optionally incorporated in the image parameter extractor when the image parameters identified are edge parameters, skin area parameters, eyes-nose-mouth (ENM) region parameters and moving region parameters, respectively.

    摘要: A characteristic point detection circuit detects a characteristic point from a base band video signal and generates a characteristic point file. A compressed video signal received from the digital satellite broadcast is supplied to a multiplexing circuit as it is in the form of a bit stream. The multiplexing circuit multiplexes the compressed video signal and characteristic point file. A control circuit obtains the characteristic point file from an optical disc during reproduction, and controls reproduction of the compressed video signal. As described herein above, the supplied compressed video signal is recorded in a recording medium without deterioration of the image quality, and the recorded video signal accepts random access.

    摘要: A data structure of an image signal includes a reproduction cycle identifier indicating whether the cycle of image display for each frame is variable or not. When the display cycle identifier indicates that the display cycle is fixed, display cycle data is inserted in a header of the coded image data, and data relating to the frame number is inserted in each frame. On the other hand, when the display cycle identifier indicates that the display cycle is variable, display time data is inserted for each frame. Therefore, when decoding and displaying the coded image data having a fixed display cycle, the decoded image data can be displayed by a simple circuit structure, i.e., based on the display cycle data and the frame number data having a relatively small data quantity (bit number), without referring to the display time data having a relatively large data quantity for each frame. Furthermore, this data structure can be applied to a coded image signal having a variable display cycle.

    摘要: In a packing unit (PU) composed of five sync blocks, Discrete Cosign Transform (DCT) blocks of compressed and encoded data are packed to a sync block. When same DCT blocks are not placed in a sync block, the remaining DCT blocks are temporarily placed in another sync block. In a high speed reproducing mode, a detecting portion detects whether or not the current PU mixes with data of another PU. The detected result is supplied as a flag to an unpacking portion along with a sync block. The unpacking portion removes a sync block that mixes with data of another PU. The unpacked data is supplied to a Bit Rate Reduction (BRR) decoder. The BRR decoder performs a decompressing process.
