Abstract:
An internal combustion engine for motor-vehicles, includes a system for variable actuation of the intake valves of the engine having a solenoid valve controllable between a closed condition and an open condition wherein it places a pressurized fluid chamber in communication with an exhaust chamber, with the aim of decoupling the intake valve from the respective tappet and causing the quick closing of the intake valve due to the respective return spring. The solenoid valve has a valve element with a cylindrical body having a first conical surface portion and a second conical surface portion. The conical surface portions are defined by the axially opposite ends of a circumferential groove formed on the valve element. The first conical surface portion cooperates with the valve seat. The other conical surface portion has an outer diameter substantially identical to the diameter of the annular edge defining the valve seat.
Abstract:
A method for determining the bidirectional reflectance distribution function of a generally plane rough surface of a specimen made of a given material includes acquiring a refractive index of the material, the spectrum of total reflectance measured on the specimen, and the geometry of the profile of the surface. The geometry is determined by: detecting the height and approximating the surface of the specimen as a distribution of plane triangular microfaces. For each direction of incidence of the light on the surface of the specimen and for each direction of observation there is determined the angular orientation of the microfaces contributing to reflecting in a specular way the light incident in the direction of observation. The Fresnel factor defining the specular reflectance of each microface is determined. The total BRDF is determined as the sum of a Lambertian component and of a specular component.
Abstract:
A gear change device for a motor vehicle includes a first and a second primary shaft coaxial with respect to each other, selectively connectable to the driving shaft of the motor vehicle, and a first and a second secondary shaft, whose axes are parallel and spaced from the common axis of said primary shafts. A fifth shaft is parallel and spaced with respect to the common axis of the two primary shafts and with respect to the axes of the two secondary shafts. A parking gear wheel is connected in rotation with the further pinion and cooperates with a locking device in. a parking condition. The parking gear wheel is mounted freely rotatable around the axis of the fifth shaft. The parking gear wheel extends radially towards the first secondary shaft within the space between the first reverse gear wheel and a rolling bearing which rotatably supports the first secondary shaft. The bearing is axially interposed between the first reverse gear wheel and the output pinion of the first secondary shaft.
Abstract:
A multicylinder petrol engine is provided with a hydraulic system for variable actuation of the valves, which enables easy control of operation of the engine according to different strategies. The engines according to the invention is, in particular, able to operate with a variable engine displacement in a modular way via the exclusion of selected cylinders, to control combustion by adjustment of the effective compression ration, and to control re-circulation of the exhaust gases at intake, in order to achieve low levels of consumption and reduced harmful exhaust emissions.
Abstract:
A process that estimates the torque transmitted by a friction clutch coupled to the shaft of a motor vehicle engine. The process includes determining the angular speed of the engine shaft and the torque developed by this shaft; calculating the difference between the measured value of the engine shaft's angular speed and an estimated value of the angular speed; and determining an estimated value of the torque transmitted by the clutch, corresponding to the calculated value of the difference or error in the engine shaft angular speed. The estimated value of the torque is used, along with the value measured or otherwise determined of the torque developed by the engine shaft, to obtain the estimated value of the angular speed of the engine shaft on the basis of a predetermined mathematical model.
Abstract:
A sequential control device having a rotatable drum and having a plurality of guide grooves and a corresponding plurality of engagement forks, each including a supporting portion on the outer surface of the drum, a drive portion to drive a corresponding synchronizing sleeve of the gearbox, and a pin engaging in a corresponding guide groove of the drum. The guide grooves are shaped to produce selective axial movement of the pins and engagement forks, upon rotation of the drum, to cause each time the engagement of a given gear. The pins are positioned on the same side of the drive portion of the engagement forks. A through groove is provided on the outer surface of the drum and extends from an end of the drum to at least the guide groove farthest from that end, to guide the pins of the engagement forks when mounted on the drum.
Abstract:
Described herein is an off-board navigation system for vehicles, comprising at least one operating center and at least one on-board navigation unit installed on board a vehicle, in which the operating center is provided with monitoring means configured for detecting events that modify the road conditions of stretches of road forming part of a road network, and processing means designed to determine, following upon detection of an event, whether said event has occurred on a stretch of road forming part of a route supplied to a user and, in this case, to request an alternative route and determine a point of no return (PNR) that is set along the route supplied to a user and beyond which the vehicle is no longer able to avoid the event and a point of influence (AR), in which the practicability of the route starts to be affected by the onset of the event and beyond which the user is still in time to request and receive an alternative route that will enable him to avoid the event in the case where the point of no return (PNR) has not yet been exceeded.
Abstract:
A spot welding head includes an electrical conductor guided into a tubular sheath whose ends are rigidly connected to rear ends of supporting bodies of several electrodes. The sheath defines a substantially stiff loop portion configured and arranged so as to be substantially parallel and to face an annular path defined by the electrodes and the supporting bodies, in such a way that two magnetic fields, one generated by electromagnetic induction caused by electric current flowing through the electric conductor placed into the loop-shaped sheath, and the other generated by electromagnetic induction caused by electric current flowing through the electrodes and the supporting bodies thereof, substantially cancel each other out or generate an overall magnetic field which is located forward of the rear end of the welding head or forward of the operator's body.

A flow of air coming out of a louver facing the internal space of the passenger compartment of a vehicle is oriented, exploiting the Coanda effect, in an area adjacent to a first surface of the passenger compartment or in an area adjacent to a second surface of the passenger compartment.
Abstract:
An assisted manual actuating device includes a controlled member, which can be displaced from a first position into a second position, a control member, which is designed to actuate the controlled member, and a mechanical transmission, which connects the control member to the controlled member. The mechanical transmission includes a shape-memory element, which is supplied by an electrical-supply that can be activated when the control member reaches an actuation position. The assisted manual actuating device includes an activation device having an anchor for constraining the mechanical transmission when the control member reaches the actuation position of the device in such a way as to enable the mechanical transmission to move only in the direction useful for bringing the controlled member into the second position.
