Abstract:
An elastic fiber is provided that includes polyurethane and/or polyurethaneurea and an additive such as polystyrene, an acrylic polymer, polyvinylpyrrolidone, copolymers thereof, derivatives thereof, and combinations thereof. The elastic fiber is useful in laminate structures, such as disposable hygiene articles as wells as in knit, woven and nonwoven fabric constructions.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are a highly uniform spandex and process for making such spandex. More particularly, the polyurethaneurea of which such spandex is prepared has both dialkylurea and cycloalkylurea ends, wherein a chain terminator composition includes a dialkylamine such as diethylamine and a cylcoalkylamine such as cyclohexylamine.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides novel polypeptides with 3-buten-2-ol dehydratase activity, polypeptides with catalytic activity in the conversion of 3-methyl-3-buten-2-ol to isoprene, and crystal structure data for one of such polypeptides. Methods of making and using the polypeptides and their related crystal structure data are also provided.
Abstract:
The system and methods described herein solve problems of inaccurate flow control, loss of optimum reactant gas feed ratios, and the associated inefficiencies brought on by variable humidity in reactant feedstream gases during production of hydrogen cyanide by an Andrussow process.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for producing compounds comprising at least one nitrile function by hydrocyanation of a compound comprising at least one non-conjugated unsaturation. The invention proposes a process for producing compounds comprising at least one nitrile function by hydrocyanation of an organic compound comprising at least one non-conjugated unsaturation, comprising from 2 to 20 carbon atoms, by reaction with hydrogen cyanide in the presence of a catalytic system comprising a complex of nickel having the oxidation state of zero with at least one organophosphorus ligand chosen from the group comprising organophosphites, organophosphonites, organophosphinites and organosphosphines and a cocatalyst of the Lewis acid type.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is the preparation of woven fabrics suitable for use in manufacturing vehicle airbags. Such fabrics are woven from a plurality of polymeric, e.g., polyamide, warp and weft tapes which have preferably been slitted, preferably in the machine direction, from a thermoplastic polymer film, and preferably from such a film which has been drawn at least in the machine direction. The resulting fabrics exhibit both the relatively low basis weight, stiffness and small packing volume typical of nylon films, and the relatively high tear strength and high damage tolerance of yarn-based woven airbag fabrics.
Abstract:
A thermoplastic composition comprising from about 50 to about 99 by weight percent of a nylon 6,6 resin, from about 1 to about 50 by weight percent of a polymer performance modifier and about from 0.01 to about 25 by weight percent of a silicone based additive, wherein the silicone based additive comprises an ultrahigh molecular weight siloxane polymer that is unfunctionalized and non-reactive with the polyamide resin, wherein the thermoplastic composition has an impact strength value which is greater than the combination of the polyamide resin and the polymer performance modifier or the combination of the polyamide resin and the silicone based additive and wherein the thermoplastic composition has an ultimate tensile strength that is at least 80% that of the combination of the polyamide resin and the polymer performance modifier.
Abstract:
Compounds containing at least one nitrile functional group are produced by hydrocyanation of an organic compound having at least one site of non-conjugated unsaturation, having from 2 to 20 carbon atoms, by reaction with hydrogen cyanide in the presence of a catalytic system containing a complex of nickel having the oxidation state of zero with at least one organophosphorus ligand selected from the group consisting of organophosphites, organophosphonites, organophosphinites and organosphosphines and a cocatalyst of the Lewis acid type of formula: in which M1 and M2 are each elements selected from the group consisting of zinc, boron, aluminum, cadmium, gallium, indium and tin.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for hydrocyanating 3-pentenenitrile. The process can include feeding 3-pentenenitrile and HCN to a hydrocyanation reaction zone that includes a Lewis acid promoter, nickel, and a phosphorus-containing ligand. In various embodiments, the process can also include controlling water concentration within the hydrocyanation reaction zone sufficient to maintain a high activity of the ligand catalyst complex while recycling at least a portion of the ligand catalyst complex.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are spandex fibers having reduced friction. The spandex fibers have a sheath-core cross-section with a lubricating additive is included in the sheath. A fusing additive is optionally included where a coalesced multifilament spandex yarn is desired.
