Abstract: An exhaust gas aftertreatment system for a vehicle includes a cylindrical inner shell, a cylindrical outer shell, an inner end cap, a metal mounting member, and an outer end cap. The inner shell is configured to guide exhaust gas. The outer shell forms a first gap to the inner shell. The inner end cap encloses an open end of the outer shell. The inner end cap includes a first axially-extending lip. The inner end cap is fixed to the inner shell. The outer end cap is fixed to the inner end cap. The outer end cap includes a second axially-extending lip. The outer end cap and the inner end cap cooperate to encapsulate the mounting member. The first axially-extending lip is sandwiched between the outer shell and the second axially-extending lip.

Abstract: A muffler for receiving exhaust gas from a combustion engine may include a shell, an inlet pipe, at least one outlet pipe, one or more baffles, and an internal communication pipe. The inlet pipe may extend through the shell. The outlet pipe may be in fluid communication with the inlet pipe and may be at least partially disposed within the shell. The baffles are disposed within the shell and cooperate with the shell to define a plurality of chambers. The internal communication pipe may be disposed entirely within the shell and may be in fluid communication with the inlet pipe. The internal communication pipe may include an inlet opening and first and outlet openings. The first outlet opening is open to and in direct fluid communication with one of the chambers. The second outlet opening is open to and in direct fluid communication with another one of the chambers.

Abstract: A fluid delivery system for an exhaust aftertreatment system may include an outer housing, a pump, a filter assembly, an electric heating blanket, and a heater retention plate. The heater retention plate is shaped to correspond to the shapes of the pump and filter assembly. A lid of the outer housing contacts the heater retention plate and clamps the heating blanket between the heater retention plate and the pump and filter assembly so that the heating blanket takes the shapes of portions of the pump and filter assembly. The outer housing includes mounting flanges and reinforcement members extending from corresponding mounting flanges to corresponding sidewalls of the outer housing and forming a hollow space therebetween. The filter assembly includes compensation elements that contract in response to expansion of fluid within a pump housing due to freezing and expand in response to thawing of the fluid.

Abstract: A damper system for a vehicle comprises an electrically adjustable hydraulic shock absorber and a damper control module. The damper control module is disposed with and coupled to with the shock absorber. The damper control module determines a target damping state of the shock absorber based on data received from a plurality of sensors. Furthermore, the damper control module controls the shock absorber, such that the shock absorber operates at the target damping state.

Abstract: A strut-type damper is disclosed. The damper has a shock absorber having a housing with a telescoping piston rod, a coil spring, an upper spring seat operably coupled to a distal end of the piston rod, and a lower spring seat operatively coupled to the housing. The upper and lower spring seats capture the coil spring therebetween. The lower spring seat has a base portion having an opening for receiving the housing and is fixedly securable to the housing. A generally circumferential wall portion extends from the base portion and forms a catcher for catching a broken portion of the coil spring if the coil spring fractures. An impact absorbing structure is formed on the lower spring seat adjacent both of the catcher and the base portion, and is configured to be crushed in the event of a fracture of the coil spring.

The oxidation catalyst may be disposed in an exhaust gas passageway and may receive exhaust gas discharged from an engine. The soot sensor may be at least partially disposed in the exhaust gas passageway downstream of the oxidation catalyst. The filter may be disposed in the exhaust gas passageway downstream of the soot sensor. The control module may be in communication with the soot sensor and may determine a face-plugging condition of the oxidation catalyst based on data received from the soot sensor.

Abstract: A muffler includes a shell, baffles, and a plurality of pipes. The shell defines first and second end cavities and a central cavity. The end cavities have larger cross-sectional areas that a cross-sectional area of the central cavity. The baffles cooperate to form multiple chambers within the shell. A first inlet directs a first portion of the exhaust into a first chamber. A second inlet directs a second portion of the exhaust into a second chamber. A first pipe extends through first, third and fourth baffles and includes an inlet in the fourth chamber. The first pipe directs exhaust from the fourth chamber to a first outlet at the first end cavity. A second pipe extends through the second, third and fourth baffles and includes an inlet in the third chamber. The second pipe directs exhaust from the third chamber to a second outlet at the second end cavity.

Abstract: An assembly may include first and second components and a service flange. The first component has a first opening. The second component has a second opening in communication with the first opening. The service flange may be mounted to the first component such that the first component is disposed between the service flange and the second component. The service flange extends around the periphery of the first opening and may include a plurality of separate and discrete segments that are individually secured to the first component. Adjacent segments define joints that movably connect the segments together while allowing for relative movement between the segments before the first component is secured to the second component. The segments include mounting apertures spaced apart from the joints and receiving fasteners configured to fixedly secure the first component to the second component. Each fastener only engages a single segment of the service flange.
