Abstract:
Powder overspray that is extracted from a spray booth is recovered back to a powder supply that is used to supply powder to the spray guns inside the spray booth. The powder overspray extracted from the booth is separated from the high flow air stream by a separator such as a cyclone separator. The powder falls into a transfer pan and a vacuum is used to convey the powder from the transfer pan to a vacuum receiver. The powder is then discharged to the feed hopper in the feed center. The use of a vacuum to convey powder from the cyclone to the feed center in effect permits substantially all of the powder overspray to be recovered from the spray booth directly to the feed hopper with minimal dwell or residence time within the cyclone or vacuum receiver subsystems during a spraying operation. The receiver can be rotated for easy cleaning, and the vacuum line cleaned by one or more cleaning elements drawn through the vacuum line.
Abstract:
A tungsten disulfide metal surface treatment in which the substrate material is prepared through impingement of small blast media particle sizes to create formed pockets in the substrate material approximately matched to the size of the tungsten disulfide particles. A sand blast apparatus having a vibratory bowl with a throttled intake pipe enables small blast media particles to be used to prepare the substrate surface with the formed pockets. A method for forming the tungsten disulfide surface treatment through roughening the substrate surface in a controlled manner is disclosed.
Abstract:
An apparatus for applying powder coating material onto large objects such as automotive, truck or other vehicle bodies includes a powder spray booth defining a controlled area within which to apply powder coating material onto the vehicle bodies, a powder kitchen located at a remote position from the powder spray booth, and, a number of feed hoppers located proximate the booth which receive powder coating material from the powder kitchen and supply it to automatically or manually manipulated powder spray guns associated with the booth. Oversprayed powder coating material is removed from the booth interior by a powder collection and recovery system which transmits the oversprayed powder back to the powder kitchen for recirculation to the powder spray guns.

Abstract:
The present invention is directed to an improved method and apparatus for the application of powdered resins to threaded fasteners. In accordance with the present invention, the powdered resin handling system used to apply, collect, recycle and make-up the resin is generally enclosed; that is, with the exception of the application of the resin to the fasteners, the resin is generally maintained within conduit, housings or hoppers that are not open to the surroundings. This tends to minimize discharge of resin into the areas surrounding the fastener processing equipment and also isolates the resin from external environmental conditions that tend to degrade the resin over time. In addition, the present invention introduces fresh, new or make-up resin in a manner that assures intimate and thorough intermixing of the new and recycled resin while minimizing the cost and complexity of the equipment employed for that purpose.

Powder overspray that is extracted from a spray booth is recovered back to a powder supply that is used to supply powder to the spray guns inside the spray booth. The powder overspray extracted from the booth is separated from the high flow air stream by and then discharged to a feed center. By recovering overspray powder in this fashion, the time required for a color change operation in the powder spray system is greatly reduced.
Abstract:
The method according to the invention is suitable for determining a powder quantity in a container and for determining a change in powder quantity, i.e. the powder quantity that is supplied from the container(s). The powder is fluidized in the container, the pressure of the fluidized powder in the container is measured to determine the pressure of the fluidized powder or the change of the pressure between two measurements, wherein the powder quantity in the container, or which was supplied from the container between two measurements is calculated from the pressure or the change in pressure. By the method according to the invention it is possible by a simple pressure measurement to determine the powder quantity which is supplied per time unit from the container and which is sprayed by the coating apparatus, and therefore to determine the supplied powder mass flow.

Abstract:
Paints of different color brightness not deposited on the work to be coated in a powder coating process are recovered as a mixture, and a fresh paint of high or low color brightness is added to the mixture to adjust its color brightness and thereby prepare a fresh mixture of medium color brightness which can be used as a paint of medium color brightness.
Abstract:
A system for monitoring the flow rate of particulate material entrained within an air stream includes a feed hopper providng a source of the particulate material, and a hose for conveying the particulate material within the air stream. A pump draws the particulate material from the feed hopper and transports the particulate material with the air stream through the hose. A flow meter is associated with the hose and measures the mass flow rate of the particulate material through the hose to provide a first flow indication. A device is associated with the feed hopper and measures the change in weight of the feed hopper over a predetermined interval to provide a second flow indication. A controller corrects the first flow indication from the flow meter according to the second flow indication from the gravimetric device. The flow measurement system provides an accurate and fast responding flow meter by combining the advantages of a fast responding in-line flow meter with the accuracy of a weight measurement system.
