    摘要: Described herein, in the preferred embodiment, is a leonardite-based polyurethane resin binder that may be used, among other applications, as a binder in combination with foundry aggregate, e.g., sand, for molding or casting metal parts. The binders described herein comprise a humic substance, preferably leonardite, combined with a polymerizable polyol, an isocyanate, and a polymerization catalyst to make a polyurethane resin binder in situ in a foundry aggregate, such as sand. The lignite is mixed with the polymerizable polyol and dispersing agents as additives to improve the suspension quality and binder performance of the lignite-containing part of the binder components.

    摘要: Systems and methods for improved molding sand performance through use of recovered additives from the existing waste stream in a foundry. Sand, clay, and carbon-containing organic components are wet recovered from a green sand mold foundry dust recovery system. The sand and non-sand fractions may be further treated to reduce water content or adjust the levels of various components to generate a pre-mix additive for the generation of new green sand molds, that may display improved properties at ambient and high temperatures when compared to commonly employed traditional pre-mix. In some examples, pre-mixes having reduced sulfur content are obtained. In several embodiments, the non-sand fraction obtained from bag house dust or dust from mechanical reclamation includes increased levels of bentonite claim and carbon.

    摘要: A cost-effective starch/water-based binder composition and related method for forming silica sand cores and molds for foundries, wherein the sand grains are pre-coated with starch having additives making the coated sand effective for blowing said cores and molds. One or more additives are included with the starch; preferably sodium tripolyphosphate and -silicon or Silres BS16. The preferred starch is a tapioca starch. The binder of the invention is highly competitive due to its low cost and effectiveness for forming silica-sand cores and molds, being particularly effective for use in aluminum foundries for the automotive industry.

    摘要: This invention is directed to binder compositions based upon aqueous solutions of alkali metal silicates. More particularly, this invention is directed to binder compositions consisting essentially of (a) aqueous alkali metal silicate solutions having a molar ratio of SiO.sub.2 :Me.sub.2 O of from about 2.0:1 to 3.4:1, with Me signifying an alkali metal, and a solids content of from about 35 to 50 percent by weight, based on the weight of the total alkali metal solution, and (b) from about 0.1 to 10 percent by weight, based upon the weight of the total binder composition, of at least one reductively aminated mono-, di-, or oligosaccharide, and the use of such binder compositions in the preparation of molds or cores for metal casting.
