摘要: A method for producing a solid layer material (42), comprising providing (70) a first layer (30); providing (72) a second liquid layer (32) on the first layer (30); providing (74) a third liquid layer (34) on the second liquid layer (32), wherein the third liquid layer has a melting point that is higher than a melting point of the second liquid layer, and wherein the second liquid layer is between the first and third layers; cooling (76) a surface of the third liquid layer to a temperature less than the melting point of the third liquid layer; forming (78) the solid layer from the third liquid layer while cooling the third layer liquid; and removing (80) the solid layer.

摘要: A process and apparatus for casting a material into a desired thin strip shape. Molten material is formed into the thin strip shape by an electromagnetic containing and forming process. In a first portion the molten material is shaped into the desired thin strip shape and in a second portion upstream of and communicating with the first portion the molten material is electromagnetically contained in a sump. The sump at a top surface thereof has a substantially larger cross-sectional area as compared to a cross-sectional area of the thin strip shape.

摘要: In printing a sinterable part using a 3D printing model material including a binder and a ceramic or metal sintering material, a release layer intervenes between support structures and the part, each of the support structures and the part formed of the model material. The release layer includes a spherized or powdered higher melting temperature material—ceramic or high temperature metal for example, optionally deposited with a similar (primary) matrix or binder component to the model material. After sintering, the release layer may become a loose powder, permitting the supports to be easily removed.

The rapid solidification apparatus includes a movable chill body defining a quench surface, a molten material nozzle for directing one or more streams of molten material towards the quench surface and a source of inert gas. The source of inert gas is configured to provide a conical shield of pressurized inert gas around the one or more streams of molten material. The conical shield extends from the molten material nozzle towards the quench surface with focal point of the conical shield at or proximate the quench surface.
