摘要: The present invention provides a method for machining hard materials using the machining fluids containing long chain alcohol in which the machining fluid is applied to a machining tool and then lubricates the machining of the workpiece by the machining tool and protects the machining tool during machining. The method is particularly useful when used with machining tools having a Mohs hardness of at least 9 and is most particularly useful when used with diamond machining tools.

摘要: A fluid flow delivery system switches a variable speed pump drive among a plurality of pumps. The remaining pumps can be operated as constant speed pumps and can be energized one at a time in response to increasing demand. The pump associated with the variable speed drive can be operated over a variable output range to provide relatively low levels of fluid output, in response to low demand, and can be operated in combination with one or more constant speed pumps to provide increased levels of output fluid in response to greater demand levels.

摘要: A method of obtaining enhanced thermal energy between a material forming apparatus and a cooling fluid is disclosed. A two component heat transfer fluid of the type including a carrier fluid and a plurality of discrete particles that undergo a reversible latent energy transition upon the transfer of thermal energy thereto. The temperature of the particles is adjusted (heated or cooled as necessary) to the point of the beginning of latent energy transition of the particles. The fluid is then brought into contact with a heat source such as a metal forming apparatus and a workpiece, proximate the interface therebetween. The slurry may then be collected, adjusted to the point of the beginning of latent energy transition and re-circulated to the heat source.

摘要: High pressure gas cutting process useful for drilling large numbers of holes in large surface area workpieces such as air frame components and the like. The procedure utilizes a cutting tool which has an internal fluid passageway extending through the shank portion thereof and terminating in at least one discharge port adjacent a cutting edge of the tool. As the cutting tool is rotated and advanced into the workpiece in the course of the cutting operation, a high pressure gas is supplied into the cutting tool passageway under an applied pressure of at least 500 psia. The gas, which may be an inert gas such as nitrogen, is discharged from the cutting port into the tool with an expansive cooling effect. The gas then flows outwardly through the hole and exits the hole with sufficient velocity to entrain and remove the drill cuttings from the hole. A liquid lubricant can be employed to prolong the life of the cutting tool. The lubricant is present in such small portions as to avoid the buildup of an identifiable liquid phase within the hole. The cutting tool is operated at a cutting speed of at least 2,000 rpm and a penetration rate of no more than 1 mil per revolution of the tool.

摘要: An automatic cutting liquid supply apparatus which automatically supplies a cutting liquid to each tool of a machine tool in accordance with predetermined optimal cutting liquid supply conditions that include variations over time during operation. The optimal supply conditions of the cutting liquid supply quantity (Q) are preset for each type of tool (1) in a control device (5). The control device (5) is constructed from a main control section (5a), which mainly controls the driving of the main shaft units (2) on which the tools (1) are mounted, and an automatic supply control section (5b), which automatically controls the cutting liquid supply quantities (Q). An input signal (Vin) corresponding to the supply conditions (preset) is inputted into the variable frequency generating device (5c) from the automatic supply control section (5b). The variable frequency generating device (5c) generates an output frequency signal (F) that corresponds to the input signal (Vin) and transmits this output frequency signal (F) to the cutting liquid supply device (3). The cutting liquid supply device (3) supplies cutting liquid supply quantities (Q) that are proportional to the output frequency signal (F) to the tools (1) from the cutting liquid tank (3a) by means of the supply pump ( 3c).
