Abstract:
A vehicle hub unit that supports a wheel that attaches to a pneumatic tire and is attached to a joint and an air pressure adjusting device that has this vehicle hub unit, provided with a first air passage that is formed with a first opening in at least one location on a surface that attaches to the wheel, is attached to pneumatic piping of the joint that supplies air, and supplies air from the first opening to the wheel; and a second air passage that is formed with a second opening in at least one location on a surface that attaches to the wheel, is attached to pneumatic piping of the joint that exhausts air of the joint, and collects air of the wheel from the second opening.
Abstract:
A vehicle axle assembly includes a hub, which is mounted on a cylindrical axle body so that it can rotate about a central longitudinal axis, and an axially inner and an axially outer shaft sealing ring for indirect or direct sealing between the axle body and the hub. In order to enable an autonomous feed of pressure medium into a vehicle tire, the vehicle axle assembly includes an annular chamber that is formed between the two shaft sealing rings, the axle body and the hub, a first pressure medium line that extends through the axle body or one of the two shaft sealing rings and opens out into the annular chamber, and a second pressure medium line that extends out of the annular chamber through the hub and is designed to be connected to a wheel that is secured on the hub.

Abstract:
A tire assembly includes a tire having an annular tread between and connected to outer edges of opposed first and second sidewalls. The first and second sidewalls terminate at radially inner edges defining first and second bead sections, respectively. The tire also has a first interior wall having one edge coupled to the tread and an opposite free edge. The first interior wall is positioned between and generally parallel to and spaced from the first and second sidewalls. A first annular spacer is positionable adjacent the first bead section between the first sidewall and the first interior wall on one side of the first interior wall. A second annular spacer is positionable on the opposite side of the first interior wall. The first and second annular spacers are configured to generally maintain a spacing of the first and second sidewalls and the first interior wall relative to one another.
Abstract:
A central tire inflation system for maintaining tire inflation on a vehicle is provided. The central tire inflation system includes a rotary union assembly having a housing that is coupled to and rotates with the hubcap. The housing is rotationally coupled to a stationary shaft. A flexible torque transfer shaft is connected to the stationary shaft on one end and to an axle plug on the other end. The axle plug has a hub forming, a bore where the hub is movable on a web of material. The flexible torque transfer shaft and hub have cooperative non-circular shapes to resist rotation. An air vent is provided in the rotary union assembly that is isolated from the lubrication area, which inhibits the pressurized air from the central tire inflation system from pressurizing the lubrication area.
Abstract:
A liquid cooled wheel system includes a wheel, an axle bolt arranged in mechanical and supportive communication with the wheel, the axle bolt defining an internal chamber configured to hold and transmit a working fluid, a pump arranged in fluid communication with the axle bolt through the working fluid and arranged in mechanical communication with the wheel such that rotational movement of the wheel is translated into internal pumping movement of the pump, and a heat exchanger in fluid communication with both of the axle bolt and the pump and configured to exchange heat from the working fluid to an external environment.
Abstract:
Spindle support arms in certain motor vehicles incorporate housings in which a drive spindle is rotatably positioned by inner and outer roller bearings rotatably positioned in bearing races. The housings are provided with lubrication passageways, such as drilled openings extending from the exterior of the housing through at least one of the bearing races to enable lubrication to be applied directly to the roller bearings in the bearing races.
